Maybe I'm reading too much into Arteta's words. Think I remember him saying Saka was in contention against City, then missed out completely. Might have done the same with Partey and ESR at one point as well from what I remember, after which they ended up missing big chunks.

But yeah, normally I'd say that means the player is there or thereabouts and we're just playing mind games regarding his availability to fool the opponents.

He's greedy. Always wants to keep hold of, encourage and motivate any player who might conceivably play a part, so he's got more on the shelf for a rainy day. Then he "Tierneys" the discards for an ultra-low valuation.

Burnwinter I highly doubt we will make a loss on Ramsdale. His reputation is superb in the league and Newcastle wants him in January. We should be able to rip them off.

Yeah we'll see. £10m might be low but I'll be very surprised if we get our money back on him. He is a good keeper though with room to grow, don't think the current situation has changed that.

I do think the way Arteta's handled it isn't great for his valuation, but no need to relitigate it.

Clrnc I think he's a good keeper so feel any buyer would stand to profit. I would want a minimum of 40 million for Arsenal. Just 5 months ago CIES valued Ramsdale at 79 million euros as the most valuable keeper in Europe. 40-60 million for me, but it would be silly to burn this bridge and let him go mid-season.
By the way, Newcastle probably made the right longer-term call by going for Livramento over Tierney.

Burnwinter agree with this with the exception of your last sentence. I think we'll be rehashing this discussion until Raya can prove he's consistently a couple of levels better than Ramsdale or we replace him with someone that is.

If we got £50m or even £30m for him I'd be ecstatic. Whatever the abstract markets and ratings platforms say, we have zero track record of selling that well. If we did get enough for Ramsdale to completely cover what we're paying for Raya, it would change my outlook on the whole manoeuvre.

Burnwinter again, agree with you for the most part with the exception being that I think Ramsdale has more growth potential. I don't think Raya is going to improve significantly versus what we've already seen.

Don't think there's any way Ramsdale achieves his potential with us now, he can't possibly trust the situation. Surely he wants out by summer whatever else happens.
