For this match I'd like to see:

         Ramsdale
Tomiyasu Saliba Kiwior Zinchenko
           Rice
    Havertz     Vieira
Saka                 Trossard
        Martinelli

I don't really want to see Zinchenko trying out "the Xhaka role". I suspect the reason we don't see that is he lacks the athleticism and presence for the role's two way responsibilities in this league—it's the type of deficit that matters much less in internationals.

RocktheCasbah Don't disagree on getting him more involved, but I think his skillset is better suited to wider positions where he can use space and drive at people. Not sure he's quite as cut out for leading the line and working in more confined spaces. Not to say he can't do it, and it's worth a go because I don't think Nketiah's lighting the place up, but I don't see it being anything more than a stop gap.

Martinelli usually plays well with Trossard as the striker and Trossard usually plays better as a striker than as a winger, so not really any reason to switch it up.

QuincyAbeyie Agreed. I guess I was just thinking Arteta has been disinclined to use Tross as a striker for whatever reason this season, so this might be another option.

QuincyAbeyie I don't think there is a "usually" with those two for the time being. When fit Martinelli has been neutralised more often this season and Trossard's only starting one in five. My question is: can we get anything from encouraging positional exchanges to happen, given the notional versatility of these players? Our forwards need a bit of disruption and change to think differently, we are quite stale.

Burnwinter For whatever reason, we haven't tried what made us go on a long winning streak in Jesus's absence last season, which was to play Trossard there even while Nketiah was available. As far as I remember we haven't played Trossard there once this season, and I think it's pretty weird.

QuincyAbeyie Mentioned it obliquely above, but Trossard was played up front this season at home to Fulham, and got dragged at half time after an awful showing.

Burnwinter That's true, forgot that he was up front in that one. That one half being the reason he's not given more chances would be very grating for me though.

Sicario2 - Tier 1

Players like Trossard and Nelson really, really need to take their chances when they are presented them. More times than not I see them play within themselves. It shouldn’t be that hard to give under performing Martneilli and Saka serious competition.

I don't see why Trossard needs to take his chance within 45 minutes while his competition for the backup spot - Nketiah - doesn't. One player is clearly given more time to prove himself than the other.

Tross is a bit weird. Mad talented, but also seriously sloppy late-Arshavin vibes too often.

Wonder if it's got anything to do with an ailment he's working through, or getting used to his leaner physique this season. Definitely need him and Jesus contributing out wide to offset performance dips by Martinelli and Saka.
