Qwiss The main thing was stopping them from scoring and making this a boring game and then trying to nick a goal, if we had kept this up I think we would have had a great chance to win it in the last 15 minutes. Up until their goal I think our tactic had worked fine, wasn't exciting but if any team would have won it most likely would have been us.

Newcastle aren't mugs and it would have taken an extraordinary performance to play them off the pitch on their own ground, it would have also left us massively open.

The xG thing is misleading as their goal was nearly worth 1, they didn't have another shot on target all game.

To be clear, I don't think we played extremely negative football. We are just unimaginative and cautious in most of our approach. Like Arteta said a lot of times if we can't win it don't lose it. It says alot about the mentality he probably transmit to the players.

Most of the time we don't take much risks, we pass it back and recycle patiently waiting for another opportunity. Controlball

Clrnc yeah but I think that leads to your focus is not on the attacking side so creating chances becomes almost an after thought rather then main focus don't lose the ball.

We were negative in the sense we didn't show really any ambition as an attacking side. Yes we went to Newcastle who have been very good and limit their chances but equally on how we played at didn't have any chances and that was against a Newcastle with some players missing. I think we should be able to show a better attacking display in the circumstances but we don't have that current DNA of the team Arteta has created.

Which then leaves you open to getting mugged off buy a bad mistake or something going against you. Liverpool went 1-0 down and a player down and managed to cause them more concern.

This does not take away from the lacklustre attack, which allows for things like shit refs to influence games. Remember the Leicester match where Xhaka was adjudged to be offside interfering with play just from being in the keeper's peripheral vision?
