The issue we have have, is apart from Saka being run into the ground, the midfield is objectively worse than last year, even with Rice being fantastic.

Not buying a proper 8 was a very poor decision which we are paying for. It is also why I am not panicked about our performance right now. Get that right, and let Rice sit in front of Saliba and Gabriel, and we will take off. I will go so far to predict that a top 8 alone next year, and we win the league.

Very poor to deviate from that and buy Havertz this season. Coupled with Partey’s constant non availability, is why we are badly stuttering.

Every viewer is looking at a decision and thinking about how anyone would call it on balance. But VARs are only supposed to overrule if it's completely impossible to accept the first call.

The system guarantees the outrage.

Burnwinter But in the same United game they guessed it was out. Everything is guesswork. They are using VAR to manipulate whatever results they want. It's not a simple case of honest mistakes week in week out. Plenty of money at stake behind the scenes.

Quite surprised yesterday's game is being used to for various forms of criticisms: Nketiah, the tactical approach, and Arteta's legitimacy to protest the officiating. Newcastle didn't have a shot on target for 65 minutes, Arsenal were resolute, Nketiah was no more neutralised than Wilson on the other end, and we were looking like the team sneak away with a well-earned, patient and resilient 0-1 win until that injustice. Our front line as a whole wasn't very good and Artedu are absolutely culpable for purchasing defenders every window but only a total 2 forwards in their tenure to-date. However, in the light of day they may well have been good enough last night if the dynamic of the game wasn't tainted. I agree we should really get a forward in January. Not sure everyone appreciates how Nketiah is trying to fast-track his development to be an Arsenal-standard centre forward in realtime without the luxury of loans or distance from a fandom with sky-high expectations, and he's doing it pretty commendably, with a punchers chance to get close to the bar by seasons end. This season is too good an opportunity to hedge on that alone, so definitely should push the boat in Jan, even for a loan.

Possibly. We were dripping in corners and who knows if a second ball fell to an Arsenal player (Jover was becoming increasingly involved), what if Martinelli kept his head up and got a nice one off in his 1v1s against Livramento when he made it into the box (his hallmark, had 2 such moments prior), and when the game was getting stretched in moments what if that allowed Kai or Declan to carry the ball and set someone up (both with great endurance, well immersed in the game). Also the card situation with the opponent (bloodlust prick + 3 others on yellow). I was optimistic about these situations, but fair enough if it was more hope.

VAR and the ref fucked us but we fucked ourselves too. Thats 1 point robbed from us not 3, any talk of 3 is just fantasy. The xg was 1.12 to 0.54 in their favour. We didn't play well enough to win that match, that should be the big takeaway.

Qwiss The main thing was stopping them from scoring and making this a boring game and then trying to nick a goal, if we had kept this up I think we would have had a great chance to win it in the last 15 minutes. Up until their goal I think our tactic had worked fine, wasn't exciting but if any team would have won it most likely would have been us.

Newcastle aren't mugs and it would have taken an extraordinary performance to play them off the pitch on their own ground, it would have also left us massively open.

The xG thing is misleading as their goal was nearly worth 1, they didn't have another shot on target all game.

Coombs of course but you have to control what you can. Playing extremely negative football and hoping to nick a goal is a very risky game plan and it'll often lead to a loss.

Needed more from Arteta in that rant , he should have directly cited Guimares . How can you elbow someone and then later smash a ball at someone angrily and escape with nothing?

Arteta's outburst, furious and personal though it was, wasn't only about us either. That dissatisfaction is directed at PGMOL and he appealed to all clubs and the league. These PGMOL apologies and justifications achieve nothing once a match has been derailed and ruined by nonsense.

It's good to see Arsenal following suit and raising the issue up to that level—we've been down the road of worrying about specific decisions too many times now.

Interesting that sky are backing the refs, I mean they went out of their way to not make a big deal about the Liverpool offside goal until it blew up on twitter and foreign channels showed how bad the decision was.

Another interesting thing is Liverpool fans, all saying we should have supported them when it happened to them. Always make things about themselves these fucking bellends.

Yeah I think every club does things where they point at the other clubs misfortune and say who cares often. Plenty of teams get bad calls we aren't unique in that need to move on and impact what is in our power to control. The level of attacking performance is what we need to address.

Entries into the box? What does that even mean? An Arsenal player stepped into the penalty area for a total of 31 times during the match? That I can believe. Our players looked allergic to the six-yard box.

Joking aside, most of those entries probably came from our million corner kicks.
