The words "if this goal is allowed to stand, it's a crime against football" were barely out of my mouth then it was given. Again, I don't really understand how they didn't have an angle that showed the ball was out when Match of the Day did. I do understand a general frustration with how we're playing at the moment, but it was always going to be difficult up there without Partey, Ode and Jesus and we restricted Newcastle to scraps. Unfortunately, they burgled that goal.
I do wonder whether Arteta's frustration is really about the wider experience of VAR - I mean we've had the Kovacic escape a month ago, Chelsea gifted a penalty two weeks ago and the see no evil approach to the subsequent foul on Jesus - and then last night. How the hell Guimares was allowed to do what he did last night is a mystery for all time.
For the goal, David Raya was found wanting, again. It wasn't the only time he got completely under a cross either, so clearly his starting position for crosses is something that's problematic. Beyond his distribution, it's very difficult to see any upside to what this guy brings. Whilst I get the logic behind his signing, the actuality of it - I'm not sure it's working out as intended.
