I'll say that as someone who's been pretty pro-Raya and anti-Ramsdale from the jump, the idea that Raya has been really important seems like a bit of a "just-so" story. I think if Raya doesn't meaningfully improve on what he's shown so far by the end of next season, then we should be in for another goalkeeper in summer 2025. Based on his track record, I feel about 70% confident that Raya will step up from what he's shown and we won't have to go back in the market. Being actively pro-Ramsdale does seem a bit like some Japanese soldier stuck in the jungle still fighting World War II in the 1970s, though.

Well, you don't need to be really. This debate's always been about whether £30m Raya was a worthy upgrade or not. The jury's now out indefinitely because a 60 year old Dave Seaman could get by only conceding a goal a game with the team in this form.

Clrnc Same story, really, isn't it? We note the little chipmunk presenter fella doesn't show Ramsdale's stats for the later "stat card" in his presentation. I'd be interested to know Ramsdale's "pass to shot assist" stat from last season if anyone's got hold of it.

The main point to take away from that four minutes is the one about Raya keeping a higher line. It was rumoured this was something Arteta had frustrations with Ramsdale about. Supposedly Ramsdale was very reluctant to push up as high as Arteta wanted because he didn't feel the defence was secure enough. Arteta's scuttled players for less.

Even with -ve xG for the opponent, Ramsdale manages to gift them a goal. Yet Raya isn't an improvement.

Missed the game but just saw the highlights. What Ramsdale did for their goal is worst than anything Raya has done. Where are the Ramsdale fan club now? I don’t want a word to be said about Ramadale again. That was shocking.

To be fair Raya made the exact same mistake against City, think it was Alvarez who closed him down and he got lucky as the ball went out.

But yes Ramsdale looked generally nervous and you could sense the pressure got to him. Raya seems to have put all the nerves behind him and looking more confident every game.

Was just going to say, Raya did it against City and kept on doing it too. Don’t care about the error, shit happens especially in these circumstances.

I did feel a notable difference in their distribution though. Not in terms of technical capability, but decision making and consistency.

Anyway the whole thing is seemingly moot now. Unless Raya gets hurt we won't see Ramsdale again.

I don't want Ramsdale to be our keeper but Raya isn't perfect either.

As Jazz says, it's exactly the same mistake. That City didn't score from it doesn't make it any less of a mistake, it just means Raya got luckier than Ramsdale. And to be clear, I do generally believe Raya is, as unpalatable as it is to most Arsenal fans (myself included), an upgrade on Ramsdale. We shouldn't pretend he's perfect, that serves nobody.
