His famous distribution was pretty shite today under pressure.
Looked nervy today, complete opposite of PSV.
I actually blame him a little for them getting into the game. He had a spell of about ten minutes with wayward kicking.
Why was he is so nervy? First NLD?
Anyway, rest midweek and go again on Sat.
He's so similar to Ramsdale, amazing save followed by less convincing stuff. Brave on the ball but looked nervy at times.
Qwiss Agree completely. His strengths and weaknesses are Ramsdale's strengths and weaknesses.
His kicking was shocking again.
His flapping led to the 1st goal. A lot happened between him palming the ball straight into the box and the goal itself but that cross-shot should have been dealt with better.
Rohit just seen this again and you are right. That flap was actually quite a horrible mistake, most keepers just palm that out. And if you want to palm it back to goal you don't do it so lightly straight to Brennan Johnson.
Look at his positioning here. Johnson should have scored.
It was a poor effort on that cross. It was a difficult one but could it have been tipped over the bar for a corner or somewhere else other than flapped into the 6 yard box keeping the attack alive?
When it's in the air, he gobbles it up. Nice to have a goalie who helps out the defence regularly like that.
3/4 clean sheets with Raya in goal.
Yes it’s a small sample size but you cannot underestimate the calming presence an assured goalkeeper has on the defence in front of him.
if anything it's been his actual keeping that's impressed me more than his kicking. he looks assured with his postioning, shot stopping and catching
Gazza M agree, hasn't been especially impressed by his kicking, but the other stuff. Often kicks it long, seemingly not entirely accurate.
that threaded pass he played out to zinchenko today was majestic. created a legit goal scoring chance with the move it started
Yup. Tried it a second time and it was off by a few inches. Those are the types of passes Ramsdale would try to execute... and then he's apologizing. As a whole, our passing out of defence is definitely more assured and calm, despite Parteys absence, and I guess that's something to be thankful for. Bodes well for when the supremely press resistant Ghanaian returns. Raya has less effective (or more predictable ) outlets, but still mostly finds the right one, puts the defence in much less regularly compromising situations. I'm liking it so far.
Dodgy stats anyway because I checked their passing stats earlier and while Rambo was behind Raya he was about 10% above that.
And doesn't that high xG against indicate Ramsdale faced tougher opposition.
That tweets inferring shit its own dodgy stats can't back up!
Be curious to know why the xG stats aren't per 90. As soon as they are the stats are actually very close in that regard. I'm not gonna stage a protest about Raya's performances but he's hardly revolutionised us, we literally just dropped two points needlessly in the derby a week ago.
Burnwinter Agree with that. Of the 4 games he's played, he's basically not faced a shot of in 3 of them. The one he was put under pressure in he flapped at a cross that led to their first goal. No major complaints on his performances other than probably that moment but I'm not convinced the other 3 results would have been any different had Ramsdale played.
Yeah I feel we haven't seen Raya under pressure, so there's nothing to go on—which might of course mean he actually is a lot better, as well.
Don't want to jinx the guy, but he could be hero or villain after City come to visit …
Well, that's done then.
Good job Burnsy.
flobaba Well, that's done then.
Yeah, Raya's pretty likely to make a major error against City.
