Qwiss I would rather give up midfielders for defenders. Our defenders are elite. They give us control, passing, width. We had so many periods where we struggled to switch play and exploit Saka and Martineli. That’s driven by our defense typically.

Thought the setup worked very well, the main issue was Arteta not making subs earlier. Their goal came entirely from fitness issues from our guys. I thought Havertz had a better second half and started to grow into it more. Trossard really should be starting at 9 imo.

Nketiah scored more goals from 9 today than Trossard has in his entire Arsenal career. Hopefully, when xG - G regresses to 0, the Nketiah Derangement Syndrome that's going around will subside.

Clrnc exactly. Forrest are a poor team in bad early season form and we got away with that. We showed spells of quality but we can't be so open. Last season we'd have those spells then shut down the game with good defending.

That should have, but probably wouldn't have, been ruled pit for offside as the offside guy blocked off Saliba from cutting out the headed pass to Johnson. Knowing us they'd have allowed it, just like they never called for the shirt pull on Ramsdale on that corner or the stamp on Saka for their freekick.

Yep, and he needed to stay on and suffer a little bit to demand that bit more of himself and get that real match sharpness that is difficult to get from training.

We have to learn to defend better from midfield and the halfway line, instead of dropping back and defending as a unit. That has to become rarer and only when we can't establish control. Gabriel out, Partey in helps with that, but it's going to take some time and practise for it all to come together.

What a terrible second half. We lacked intensity and didn't create anything. I'm pretty sure Nottingham probably had a higher threat or xg than us. Full backs were needed

Presumably because he got to preseason later than everyone. It was lost in all of the transfer stuff, but he took a super long vacation for no fucking reason. It was weird.

Rice did look knackered at the end. No idea why we didn't make subs around 65mins. Really poor second half. And not good to concede from your own corner.

I don't know why we didn't finish them off in the 2nd half and were just happy to pass it around with no purpose and concede our usual Emirates goal.

Panda Rice has looked knackered by the 70th every time I’ve seen him. Maybe Arteta is trying to stretch him. We will need him to be able to do 90s. I think we will love this guy once he settles. He’s a dynamo

Ricky1985 I think Gab out and Partey in defence made us more vulnerable in midfield and defence. I'd much rather White RB, Gab CB and Partey in mid. What that gave us in the first half was more mobility for Partey and he was playing like Zinchenko. Then in the second half it all became much more flat.

We didn't have trouble putting sides like this away last season so I'm not sure we really need to play like this. It's the big games where we need to improve and you can't play like this against City, Liverpool, etc

DiabyKungFu it's very weird. I thought one of the best things about him was going to be his conditioning and professionalism. Shouldn't be letting his levels drop so much over the break. Hope Arteta has him more desciplined next year.

He was still playing for West Ham in the second week of June. He's a couple of weeks behind everyone else. People need some patience.
