Claudius I hated this formation. It did not give us enough control in the back.

Huh? It was great. We were totally dominant. They had two breakaways late on because Declan Rice got tired. That was it.

definitely would bench havertz for trossard. the guy is just a bit blah about everything he does. that signing looks funny in the light to me

Rice was looking more comfortable out there today going box to box and wide, really helpful with his successful tackles and break ups too. Just expected more from him for that counter.

RocktheCasbah Can't be thinking we played well since we only played well in the first half and first 10 mins of the 2nd half. Long shots aside didn't really create many dangerous clear chances. This is exactly like what happened in many matches last year where we were coasting and then got back at.

Thankfully Arteta brought Tomi on. He was huge for us the last 10 minutes

Qwiss I would rather give up midfielders for defenders. Our defenders are elite. They give us control, passing, width. We had so many periods where we struggled to switch play and exploit Saka and Martineli. That’s driven by our defense typically.

Thought the setup worked very well, the main issue was Arteta not making subs earlier. Their goal came entirely from fitness issues from our guys. I thought Havertz had a better second half and started to grow into it more. Trossard really should be starting at 9 imo.

Nketiah scored more goals from 9 today than Trossard has in his entire Arsenal career. Hopefully, when xG - G regresses to 0, the Nketiah Derangement Syndrome that's going around will subside.

Clrnc exactly. Forrest are a poor team in bad early season form and we got away with that. We showed spells of quality but we can't be so open. Last season we'd have those spells then shut down the game with good defending.

That should have, but probably wouldn't have, been ruled pit for offside as the offside guy blocked off Saliba from cutting out the headed pass to Johnson. Knowing us they'd have allowed it, just like they never called for the shirt pull on Ramsdale on that corner or the stamp on Saka for their freekick.

Yep, and he needed to stay on and suffer a little bit to demand that bit more of himself and get that real match sharpness that is difficult to get from training.
