He is far more of a physical DM, someone who has a good engine and gets about intercepting things, tracking back, etc the mental side of his game in the way that talks about Busquets isn't close. If anything Partey is more like Busquets in his ability to make a bit of space without much fuss and then play good passes forward. There is a reason WHUs form improved after Rice was pushed forward.

But the 3-2-5 means there is not quite as much pressure on the single pivot. Zinchenko is the player who comes closest to that role (when we're playing well).

Like I said, he's learning the role. He has the raw materials : positioning and a good engine. The way Arteta talked about him in terms of being a "lighthouse" and hub of the team, and Arteta being a product of Barcelona/Pep makes me feel we are not breaking our transfer record and going toe to toe with City to sign a player just so he can Xhaka better. He is marked for a more important role than that.

Rice although not to the level of Busquets, for example, has pausa and can brush his passes. Attributes which means he can play as a pivot with a high degree of calibre.

I recon he’ll be similar ro Rodri in time. A high volume passer, with good physical strength and the ability to find net fairly often.

Would prefer a win if we can manage it. It is not the end of the world if we don't, but if we do, it will give the team a big confidence boost before the season starts, and that would hopefully let us start the season well and pick up points early.

I'm gonna watch on the treadmill again, we should win then. Also, Zinchenko played in a friendly game yesterday(11 minutes), after he said he is fit and ready for today...but you would imagine he is not gonna get any minutes. But he should be ready for the PL, and thats good news.

Will be interesting to see our starting line up. Should give us some indication on what the team going into the season will probably look like. Really hope it's Trossard, and not Nketiah, up front.

Hope Nkeitah starts. Preference toward Trossard like most but believe in due process and good man management. Trossard can start in midfield, right wing or be our most effective substitution and spark off the bench. Over to Mikel, will be interesting to see the call.

First start, first chance, only Arsenal goal of the game against Monaco? Don't get me wrong, my desire would be to drop him and Trossard has looked sizzling enough to start anywhere in the XI. I would just choose to use another preseason fixture to stand pat and don't demoralise and send wrong signals to the only proper striker we have for 6-7 weeks before the season's even started. If he has a stinker or is ineffectual, he'll understand why Mikel will try something different next week. Trossard meanwhile, should know his stock is mile high and his chance is inevitable.

I think they should change the name to ‘super cup’ which is what they call this game in the rest of the major European leagues. That has a better ring to it all of a sudden and makes it feel bigger/more important.

I think we should start Eddie simply because I believe in rewarding players based on their most recent performances. Especially because he's an actual striker.

Trossard has been one of our best players though and should probably start at LCM.
