RocktheCasbah We haven't just signed a big player we've also signed a big character. Neville has pointed out a few times about his character.

Also we now have a real physical mobile powerhouse in the middle.

Think he has more to his locker than 'just' a midfield powerhouse. Essien was a great player but didn't have the passing ability and technique that Declan has.

Rice is the kind of player Fergie would have paid the bag for. So glad it was us that did it.

daredevil This summer Bellingham, Rice & Kane moved. If Fergie was still around all three of those players would be at Man Utd. He always made sure that Man Utd were fighting tooth and nail for the best players in the PL and was happy to overpay to get it done.

His giant stride tends to mean that a single shimmy to the left or right opens up a ton of space and is often all he needs to get him pass his marker. It's an understated aspect of his game.

The west ham fans I know said that you've signed a quality player and future England and maybe Arsenal captain and I think you can see those traits in his character.

He was really good yesterday. Happy to see so many forward passes. Wonder if we will see the Rice Havertz Odegaard midfield again when Zinchenko is back. For "easier" home games only could work.

Clrnc We've got much better pull as a club again now. I do think though if Chelsea hadn't fallen off they would have been our main rival for Rice. For years they have wanted him and maintained close relations with him and his family. I think for a while everyone just assumed he would eventually join them.

We also are being a lot smarter in the transfer market when it comes to main targets, we did the groundwork for the Rice deal well in advance

The timing couldn't have been better for us really; his contract situation, the absolute shambles that Chelsea were last season and Arteta's project climbing into the ascendancy for the first time. It may be that we would have been able to get him next summer, but this summer was the first summer we really had a chance. And we took it.

If we can keep Zinchenko fit. Feel like him and Rice are going to make a brilliant pairing at the base of our midfield. Perfect mix of creativity and ball winning ability to enable the front 5 to do some serious damage.

Think it was deliberate too, just might have missed an "and" but sounded like he was trying to say "even here, (and) West Ham, the lads are always on to me to shoot more".

Ricky1985 yeah it sounds to me like he's say "yeah here, west ham the lads are always" he's talking about both clubs telling him to shoot more.
