Defensively he is gonna be a monster for us, his reading of the game in the position is probably the best in the league. I’m sure working under our coaches his passing will go up a level.

Big games we play him with Partey our midfield is gonna be hard to get past.

He’s got levels to go. He’s almost having to relearn the game because it’s such a different set of demands to what he did at West Ham, both on and off the ball. His positioning is a little off, his timing is a little off, his awareness of teammates a little off. But you can see how dominant he can be.

That’s a big part of unlocking his potential Jazz. Get him super lean and therefore increase his mobility and engine. He’s gonna be the boss

Not expecting much from him this season as it will be a big change adapting to the physical intensity we play at over the course of a season. Next year should be much better, but can picture him fading rather than improving as this season unfolds.

In terms of his skillset, don't think he will be good enough to the sole DM, but having him adds to our tactical flexibility as reckon we could quite easily see him drop deeper as an extra CB to allow the fullbacks to push up at times during a game.

It might get lost in the shuffle because folks are bitching about him getting tired late in the game, but I thought he was exceptional in the first half. He was running around winning the ball on the counterpress like a peak Francis Coquelin. £100m was a bargain.

I didn't. I actually thought he grew into the game more in the second half before he gassed out. In the first half I thought both he and Havertz were carried by the rest.

Rice is not fully fit, that's been a theme of the preseason. He's gonna step up. I don't think it'll take six months either.

Yeah. The only good thing he did was out running others with his athleticism in covering, did nothing else of note. Not sure how that's deemed exceptional these days.

Pretty big deal for a defensive midfielder. Ngolo Kante made a nice career out of this.

Was a 7/10 performance, nothing special. Compare him yo Xhaka this time last year who was giving 8.5/10 performances for the first few months of the the season.

Good thing is that he has more gears in him.

In all seriousness, watching Rice-Partey out there really reminded me of Coquelin-Cazorla. People might be disappointed with that because they imagine Rice playing a more expansive role than Coquelin, but we also have more firepower up front and more talent at the back than that 2014-2016 team. It'll be interesting to see how this team evolves.

He did a lot of Gilberto Silva underrated stuff plus more. I thought he had a solid 7.5/10 game. He's still not match fit too.

decent debut i thought. defensively very switched on for the first 60 minutes, and could've nicked a goal which would've made people perceive his performance differently. totally gassed in the last 20 minutes though. you can tell he's doesn't yet have the confidence - or responsibility - to drive with the ball from deep. that part of his game will add alot to us
