Claudius so I find two things funny with this discussion
1) Manchester United fans saying “anyone but Arsenal” with respect to who they’d prefer to win. When the other options are their 2 most bitter rivals

A lot of the younger fans these days don't pay too much attention to things like local, historical or competitive rivalries, because who's most annoying on social media takes precedence.

Still, from what I've seen most 'neutrals' want us to win it.

What comes across is that there's people willing to back each of the three contenders. Our form's the best, City's experience is the best and Liverpool have the easiest fixtures by some lights.

Yeah we have to beat Spurs. But even if we win all three of our next three, we have to beat Spurs. There will be no "set cruise control" moment which makes a match by match approach a no-brainer.

Claudius 2) The whole discussion is about fixtures. Very little about form. We have conceded 4 goals this year. Everybody else is 12 or above. Why isn’t that part of their assessment?

Its like the probability models. Until you win they will never make you favourite to win.

Didn't know it was that long, but this is the reason I think it's good that we play at home first in the CL, even though historically playing at home last is better.

We've proven ourselves to be quite ridiculous at shutting teams out, but haven't had much practice in reclaiming a lead.

Sicario2 - Tier 1 Might be advantage to us according to the theories here. When Bayern lost their last 2 domestic match people said its advantage to them before they visit Emirates because the only had one thing to focus and is a wounded animal.

JazzG I really want to see us do that, especially as Arteta has never really nailed a run in with us. If we get to 89 points and we don't win the league, I think most of us would see that as a pretty positive season even if it ends up being potless. For me, anything above last season's points tally is positive - I'd be a little disappointed if we just scraped 80 odd.

True but the problem is we are a streaky side. Everything has to go in our favour and conditions have to be right for us to succeed. One set back and I feel hearts and minds will be gone.

I don’t care about the prem games anymore - can relax. But Wed is the biggest game in our recent history.

We've got to show something we haven't really been able to do this year and go away and get that result away from home which requires more then we've seen so far.

I think there are questions about this team to look at should we fall away again. As good as we've been the last few seasons it's not been enough and we make to many mistakes you cannot afford that. Do we have the quality to compete and come through despite how good city are? Klopp managed to do it the challenge in still there for us.

awooga83 we’ve had good results away at Anfield and the Etihad so we’ve got an away result in us to difficult teams, and without looking again I think our away defensive record is better than our home record by a fair margin.

I mean, people probably don't mean that there's literally 0 % chance of us winning the title..? They just mean that the chances are now so low that they don't believe it will happen. If you look at betting aggregators the payout for betting on us to win it is more than double of what it was before the match, it's not a 'fickle fan' thing to say that this outcome had a huge effect on our chances.

For me it's not so much today's result, which was pretty devastating, as it is about how lethargic and short of ideas we look. This is the pattern under Arteta every April.

Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert this April, before losing today, we had a comfortable win over Luton with a rotated side, played Brighton off the park, and then held Bayern to season lows in shots and shots on target (despite the 2 goals conceded).
Today we had a good but somewhat wasteful first half. And then disappeared second half. That doesn’t sound like a team that’s reeling. Should we read Liverpool’s eulogy after their 2 Anfield defeats?
