Well, the reality is we are doing incredibly well and currently better than City for sure. Pool is obviously marginal as it stands.

Qwiss City just happen to be transitioning from among their two most significant players last season, KdB and Gündogan. A key difference. I think you're underlining the point about shared transitions (some more significant) as being a relative equaliser. One could interpret the table as it looks like now as supporting evidence of that.

Horror films and thrillers are similar: their protagonists always face grave challenges that charge the viewer with emotion, producing an investment in the final outcome, and making the whole an entertaining spectacle. But in the case of thrillers, the viewer believes the resolve and competence of the heroes could be decisive.

Positive or negative views of all the plot twists (and plot holes) aside, I don't reckon you could point to any Arsenal fans who dispute we're watching a thriller. At Christmas we should all spare a thought for the United fans who spectate a B-list ensemble cast each week with their hands over their eyes, gasping "No! No! Don't go through that door, you idiots!" 😆

KingslandBarge they still have KDB. He's just injured. There has been no major squad churn at City. They just haven't bought well with their replacements. And people forget that City were a bit of a mess early last season too and people put it down to Haalands arrival. If you are in transition every season then its a moot point. Teams change personnel, thats just a normal part of the game. Changing manager I can understand, maybe losing a talismanic player but that hasn't happened here or at City.

daredevil teams usually buy players every season, if almost every club in a constant state of transition its a meaningless thing to talk about.

You don't need to try and "read between the lines" because I'm not talking in riddles. Like I said we have arrived, the transition is over. Now we are just having a normal season with normal personnel changes and that shows in how well we are doing.

We are in the expectations thread, the squad changes shouldn't lower expectations due to "transition". Quite the opposite. We lost Xhaka and Turner and replaced them with Raya, Havertz and Declan fucking Rice. That should raise expectations. I hope we get that sort of "transition" again next summer.

No-one said we are in transition, but rather that we have transitioned our midfield. Which is literally true as we've replaced two long standing and pivotal midfielders.

Similarly, who said anything about lowering expectations? With changes comes an understandable adjustment period. Being more understanding that the team will take some time to optimise performance wouldn't go amiss.

Agreed. A total of 0 players who started in the FA Cup final in 2020 are still at the club. That’s what you call a transition.

I think Liverpool needed a transition but it has been too slow. It reminds me a little of later year Wenger where every year it’s two steps forward, two steps back.

The new pair we're rocking in midfield cost £170m and has 400+ Premier League appearances, all for London clubs. Both players are 24 year old decorated internationals in peak physical condition. We're top of the table and Havertz has hit form, any more patient adjustment and they'll need to create a new division for us.

Let's fucking go, people. Any fan can fairly match the level of anticipation and excitement manager and squad are showing—and all Arsenal is hell bent on going better than last season and winning the league.

The profiles of the signings certainly accelerated the settling in period and retained last season's momentum. Rice is as guaranteed a success as you can get and it's still quite remarkable that we picked him up. This guy would have previously ended up at United or Chelsea.

Havertz's turn of form is quickly turning Arteta into his own version of Arteta knows. Let's win a title or four and consolidate the massive strides we have made under his management. When we bought Runarsson and had Raul making shady deals with Jia, I thought the club was done.

Nice for sure but please can we close it out. I don't like the fact they point how we've been top isn't it impressive. Yes but we've been here before but not pulled through. That's the one thing I want us to improve as a club making much more of our opportunities I think many other "big" clubs have maximised those more then us. If City let off a bit this year and the total points needed to win drop you've got to seize that.

We are 7 points off our equivalent last season which was an outstanding half season to be fair. But we'll need a bigger return in the second half of the season then we managed last time.

awooga83 I feel pretty positive we're going to get more points than we did in the second half of the season last year, many more. I accept my being positive about it doesn't mean it's going to happen, of course, but this team we're watching now is much more stable than last year's iteration.

Actually most clubs are more or less the same. City is alot more worse off but the funny thing is Chelsea.

RocktheCasbah I feel the same. We’ve had a very unfit Odegaard and White in the first half of the season, along with Jesus returning from a serious injury. And then the usual Partey/Tomi shenanigans. Plus we are still integrating Rice, Havertz and Raya - the first 10 games especially weren’t smooth for these guys. I think we will boss 2024.

RocktheCasbah to an extent, I like that we've not really built a full head of steam, but are top of the table. I'm quietly hopeful we do what city did last season, and find another gear in 2024. our attack has a ton of scope for imrpovement
