CPM You're starting to see the plan with Havertz, but playing with both Rice and Havertz in CM, for all the advantages it provides defensively, leaves us a bit short with the distribution that someone like Partey gives. I guess the idea is that Havertz bombs forward as a second striker while the 'inverted fullback' steps up to play as a holding midfielder in possession. It makes sense, but after Timber's injury it leaves us quite reliant on Zinchenko in the build-up.

We have a few options. Unfortunately Timber and Partey are injured at the moment, but Ode has been dropping in more and joining the buildup in recent games. Came very deep to collect the ball at times against Luton.

But the more fluid and flexible we are with how we build up the better.

JazzG he's a monster in the air. We're playing a lot more directly and I get the feeling its because he's there to win them. I'd be interested to see how much we play long when Trossards in the left mid spot vs Havertz.

Needs to get his touches and passes closer to Granits numbers though, then he'll really become a dominant midfielder

I don't know if today he was actually good or just looked good because everyone around him was bad. Looked sharp

he was in acres of space throughout the game in the channel between the villa RB and CB, if only someone just had the nous to knock more balls behind for him. rice and zinchenko kept horseshoing when it was clearly a game for more direct balls through the middle and in behind.

They laughed when Dules said he was a physical player. Between him and Rice, we have such a robust midfield. We are lacking on the passing front, though, as Xhaka/Partey was better in that regard.

yep its a no brainer for me that Smith-Rowe or Trossard start alongside Ødegaard tomorrow. I'd like the former retracked into contention asap either way, and home against Brighton is a rather decent opportunity, if partially a coerced hand because of Kai's booking tally. A good performance from either ESR or LT would pose a luxury selection dilemma for next weekend.
