You're starting to see the plan with Havertz, but playing with both Rice and Havertz in CM, for all the advantages it provides defensively, leaves us a bit short with the distribution that someone like Partey gives. I guess the idea is that Havertz bombs forward as a second striker while the 'inverted fullback' steps up to play as a holding midfielder in possession. It makes sense, but after Timber's injury it leaves us quite reliant on Zinchenko in the build-up.
If Havertz finds some confidence that could be a big deal – in terms of physical tools and technical skill he's one of the best packages in the Prem. But at the end of the day the game is played between the ears.
