Clrnc sure, but it may be an indicator that he's gaining a bit in confidence and figuring out his role. I took thought this was a better game for him. Sure it wasn't prime Odegaard but I think he was a lot less passive and was involved in some decent interplay.

Still got it all to prove but his performance was one of the small positives to take out of this game.

It depends what you value in midfield, it was one of his worst games in terms of passing and possession.

i didn't really have a big beef with him based on previous standards. he fought. he's not good enough from an attacking perspective, but i didn't think he was a fighter, but maybe i'll be wrong about him actually having attacking talent and he'll come around there as well. i hate having to hope that i'm missing something with a 65m player.

His pass completion was poor yesterday but it was a consequence of him actually taking risks and playing with more bravery. It was a stark contrast to the cowardly 5-yard backward layoffs we had seen from him for most of the season.

From a creative perspective, it's still not good enough and we expect more, however he is clearly making improvements.

In other news, Xhaka at Leverkusen has completed more final third passes than any other player in the Bundesliga whilst topping the table. Should have just kept him for another season.

I am not sure performances in the Bundesliga can be used for too much because the league is generally low quality.

For Havertz if we spent 20m on a chance then I think you would allow a bit more space. But he was bought in at a price to make an offensive contribution assists or goals right now. He's nowhere near doing that. His end product was questionable at Chelsea and I don't see what is going to change with us.

Missed the match yesterday so that’s the first I’ve seen of his performance. Looked to me like he had a good game.

I like him. Sure he’s lacking confidence and is adjusting to our style but I can definitely see the potential.

Our front three was the problem yesterday.

I don't think he was good or anything but there was something atleast a little different in how he played.

He actually used his physical attributes yesterday to decent effect with some big-stride dribbles and showing some fight, there might just be something there for us after all.

I don't mind Havertz's "I'm just the village idiot" response to getting collared for taking a player out. He is pretty much fine off the ball, provides something different and does his work.

Like good old Abou Diaby, he won't seem rapid and smooth on the ball due to his physicality. Though frankly it'd be great if he had Diaby's ability.

Havertz needs to keep the aggression up and get on a mini streak of goals and assists to change his narrative. Nothing less will do it.

Burnwinter I think this is it for me. By his own poor standards he was good but I don't think it's a good performance by the level that we need from players in the team. There seems to be a want to make everything he does a significant turning point or something to talk up understandably because people are desperate for this to work which I can get. But I do not believe we spent 65m to have a guy that works hard off the ball, there are plenty of players who could do that. We paid for him to add to the attacking side of our game and for me on Saturday he didn't do that again.

Yes many of our attacking players are misfiring at the moment so he's not an outlier in that sense but the difference is they've shown what they are about at this club so they will get some more benefit for a while.

This may be perfectly fair, but it also doesn't mean much of anything in the context of an individual game. The attack looks poor whether Havertz is there or not, so despite his lack of history with the club, why couldn't his performances be symptomatic of the greater malaise going forward?
