Needs to prove he's better than Willock. Both are on different trajectories but quietly confident we get a good tune out of Havertz (if the deal goes through) and shift his trajectory.

You can’t compare Havertz to Willock. Wilock is like all the other players we have been trying to shed for years. Completely unsuited to this team. Havertz is a technical and flexible player. I also went and looked at his numbers and video again. His pressing is good, it’s Chelsea’s team pressing that is bad. This is a good example of a Wenger style rehabilitation buy.

Unless Havertz surprises us all, I really don't see how he can replace Xhaka in the 8 position. Sure, he's better going forward, but Xhaka was vital in providing help for Zinchenko. Often dropping down at LB when Zinchenko was everywhere else.

We have to get better in our pasing and ability to control and dominate. Havertz will help to do that. Ødegaard and Havertz will be able to spend the vast majority of matches in the opponent's defensive third - as Xhaka did for most of the season when we played properly.

I'm surprised you're not a fan, Kel. He's such a smart and technically gifted footballer. Never a proper 9, the way Chelsea have used him, though.

I am skeptical, but I hope he surprises me. I haven't seen him play that much, and I've never paid particularly attention to him. On the ball he seems like nothing special, so hopefully he's a genius off the ball.

wonder how we shuffle things if we do play him as a left sided 8. he offers decent high pressing, but won't fall back into the double pivot on defense like xhaka. some kind of back four alchemy will no doubt take place to fill those vacated midfield spaces. timber to triple invert to cover for zinchenko and havertz or something

He has quality technique, not van persie level but its really good.. Think its his height/gangly frame that maybe doesn't make it stand out... Didn't realise how intelligent his movement of the ball is as well... We are going to go up levels instantly from an attacking perspective if he can play in the 8 role.. still not convinced how it will work defensively, but excited to see what Arteta has in mind... Great cover for the front line as well.. bring on preseason.

People are going to be surprised how good he is on the ball. He is incredible intelligent and aware of his surroundings too.

He’s quite erratic technically so will no doubt frustrate at times, but he’s able to hurt any team and step up when it counts. I love the way he gets in to the box and is able to get a chance away. His heading is particularly impressive.

Potential is massive. Great base physically and I think Arteta is the kind of manger he needs to realise improvement

Always rated this guy and certainly didn't ignore him entirely and then suddenly started praising him the moment we were rumored to sign him, so I'm looking forward to see what he can do for us. Should be good.

This guy is coming in with such low expectations from Arsenal fans. I really think he will be fantastic for us, especially in those games where teams go low block I think he'll be a great asset.

Big game performer as well, a bit heavy on the price but happy we are getting him.

I wonder if we'll continue to press in a 4-4-2? And if we do, will Havertz be the one pushed up alongside Jesus with Ødegaard dropping back? I suspect that is what will happen.

It'll be interesring to see how that changes us in transition because in theory, Ødegaard's dribbling and passing should be more useful deeper and Havertz running power and strength/aerial ability would bring another dimension to our counter-attack.

Ricky1985 thought that too but at the same time Odegaard had one of the highest contributions for most goals from midfield last season so it’s a gamble to lose that by making him play deeper

It's also along those lines that makes me believe Havertz can be so useful to us - he has the technique and intelligence to play in small spaces, but also has the athleticism, speed and work-rate to be a great big space, transition player. The players who can be effective in both scenarios are rare.
