How does it lack context? We've got plenty of context given how few minutes ESR has got over the last year and how many Havertz has got in his short stint here despite doing nothing but stinking the place up.

est to be more specific, Arteta's quote about ESR has been taken out of context. It has been interpreted as Arteta suggesting he's not good enough despite previous performances. The context of the quote is ESR's rehabilitation from injury, which is relevant.

As I said above, I don't think ESR's situation and Havertz's are mutually inclusive. It's a simple narrative to connect the dots between the two but I don't think it's a true reflection of the reality.

and it is very likely that arteta was referring to whether or not ESR is built for this shit physically. a lot of players have the talent, but their body just can't hold up. arteta knows what it looks like because he played with two: diaby and wilshere.

and i feel that's what he means because he would be retarded otherwise and i would be confident in believing last year was all luck. no one in their right mind would believe this guy doesn't belong.

daredevil Why? If the process of playing him into form comes at the expense of not playing players that could potentially outperform him and improve our overall results, is it worth it? I'd say the critics were not wrong in that case. And that's with the massive assumption that he is going to come good in the end.

I'd say it's all hypothetical either way until he either comes good or we replace him and see what the others do. In any case I don't think either outcome means any of us should not be allowed to have any football related opinion voiced. Otherwise we may as well pack up up the forum.

I don't mean to be a miserable git and I was happy for him to score a goal but does the whole sentiment of him being given the penalty and then the teams reaction after help anything? It's basically his peers throwing an arm around him, patting him on the back and saying 'Yeah you're shit mate, we all know it, but... you're our shit.'

Lukazan I remember Messi giving it to Ibrahamovic when he was on a poor run of form and it didn’t do any harm. Sometimes players need a bit of help along the way and his teammates know him better than we do.

Depends on how you look at it. If the net result means Havertz gets closer to looking like a £65m signing then I’m all for it.

I think he is slowly getting better each game but we are talking from a very low bar. So has gone from 5/10 to 6.5/10.

Yeah definitely saw it as supportive rather than patronising. I assume having your teammates back you in that way makes you feel better rather than worse. And good on him for scoring it too.

Sure, but I don't think anyone here thinks he's gonna come good besides wishful thinking. Hence, why if he does turn it around and the team continues to pick up points inspite of him playing, it would border on miraculous.
