But's he's extremely press resistant and a good passer - he would have done well as a FB here.
I think some of you are looking at it wrong. Very few players are just good. Full stop good. Good regardless of system, team mates or environment.
Your Sakas and Haalands, yes, they are just too good and too rounded not to thrive anywhere, but there are players everywhere who would work here and not elsewhere and vice-versa. 99.9% of players are dependent, at least to an extent, on the specifics of the team they play in to shine individually.
An example is when Dules says about selling Gabriel, it's not because he's not an extremely good CB, it's because he might not suit exactly what we are trying to do. Pépé is a good player in a counter-attacking team but sucks in a pressing, positional team. Similarly, Mudryk has insane attributes but also big weaknesses. Martinez is a dwarf who does indeed dive in "like a dickhead"... of course he's going to struggle unless everytring is perfect for him at CB in the Premier League.
Tierney is another example. He's one of, if not THE, best LBs in the league, without question. But not here. Not for the demands of our system. His attributes simply do not work. He's not now a bad player, we have mountains of evidence to prove how much quality he has.
