Don't think this has been mentioned elsewhere but thought this was an interesting comment from Arteta. I'm inclined to believe this is his classic 'smoke and mirrors' routine where he's looking to misdirect our opposition, in the same way that he focussed on Zinchenko's versatility when we signed him but then had a very clear idea of how he wanted to play him, which in turn unseated quite a few opponents. Think he's looking for Havertz to be this year's joker card.

Either that or he genuinely doesn't know where Havertz will play! 😂

Don Pacifico he definitely knows where he wants to play him. It just Arteta managing the media in case he has to move him early on due to squad issues.

I thought he looked promising, played more or less how you'd expect him to as an 8. Quite a lot of aggressive off the ball running into the box, but nobody was able to pick him out. Would have liked to have seen him involved with the first half eleven, it was pretty chaotic in the second half with so many changes and weird positions. Suspect it make it may take him a little while to get to grips with the deeper aspects of the 8 role. He looked like a forward dropping back I thought

Yeah, you can tell from the little comments from both of them that he's intended to play in midfield - i.e. as an 8.

The versatility is just a bonus.

I'm gonna enjoy it when he starts proving people wrong. I think he's not lived up to his potential at Chelsea but there is definitely a player there.
