Yesterday was the first time I've seen him take a shot with confidence. It's almost like we're nursing him through his PTSD from his time at Chelsea.

Mirth yeah there was a stark difference between that finish and the goals he sort of bundled in before Christmas. The question now is can he keep that confidence or will he be a bit of a streaky player. And can he score these goals when its 0-0. Not to take anything away from him, he's been a huge part of this dominant run and for me has won his place as starting CF in the team.

Qwiss to me he's proved that he's still got the talent we saw 2-3 years ago even though he's evolved as a player. Now it's up to him to become an undisputed starter.

Yeah that finish was unreal, everything about it from the moment he received the ball was great and just not typical of what we've seen of him so far. He continues to have me more and more confused every game but I like it. He should continue as first choice CF for sure.

Gurgen When he first broke through in Germany he was seen by some as one of the most talented players to have come through. There was a reason why R.Madrid were also interested in the summer.

He was just someone who had lost his way, he needs to keep improving and keep consistent now but we are starting to see the kind of levels he is capable of.

I wanted him out , and I still think we overpaid too much for him but I'll admit he is changing my mind in the last few weeks. Hope it continues and he keeps Jesus out of the team with his performances.

Still got my doubts about him long term but he's young, cunning, a brilliant athlete and he's influencing every match now. I said round October November that if he broke out and scored 10–15 goals in a trophy season he'd become a cult hero—Havertz and Arsenal are now part of the way there.

By the way those of us who doubt him are only rational. I wanted to believe in the experiment of signing him, but he was utter gash for long enough that faith felt absurd.

Burnwinter agree with this sentiment, the money we paid didn't really make sense and I still think it's a bit much but he's contributing to the team creating issues for the opposition, allowing other players to find space and scoring. All of which is very positive just needs to keep that level through the next 11.

Arteta has done more than enough to warrant faith, and Havertz wasn't a Sanogo type signing.

I said a few months that this cat has almost 100 top flight goals for club and country and he's only 24. There is talent there and it's a matter of time before we will start to see it. I would have been concerned if he was playing poorly at the start of next season, but not 5 games in. But people were like no, he needs to deliver yesterday, completely ignoring that players generally need time to settle, particularly those who have been out of form.

Well, you know you're just as quick to judge—the difference is you're firmly in the "Arteta Knows" camp. Not being cheeky.

Havertz is a weird player. I've oscillated up and down on this signing at least half a dozen times this season, and I doubt that's over. Watching him play with a bit of elan now (love that word) actually hammers home how very awkward he was, match after match.

One thing: I've been exasperated by Havertz but never disliked him. He always seems to try, and gets a bit of the sad dog eyes when he's in his head. It's a tremendous relief too when he doesn't suck, isn't it? It's like watching your recovering drug addict cousin form a healthy relationship and hold down a job.

Margins are slim. A newly signed starter being garbage for a couple of months could be long enough to lose the title. Until "at the start of next season" and we wouldn't even stand a chance.

Margins are slim, but you can't expect every signing to hit the ground running, nor can your recruitment be so short-term focussed that you only sign players who are best placed to do that. There has to be a mix of short, mid and long term signings. and if that means taking a short term hit for someone who in the mid to long term is the right man, then so be it. We aren't just trying to win this years title, we also want to compete for the next 4.

Does it really matter once you've signed them though? Obviously in the ideal world someone comes in, hits the ground running and immediately adds huge value. Often that won't be the case though, and after you've already signed them, you may as well support them.

Despite the doubts I think by and large most people were supportive of Havertz, you can tell by the fact that generally when he had half a decent game people were pretty quick to take a more optimistic view. Maybe because he's quite an endearing character.

daredevil and we'll probably buy a new starter in each of those 4 seasons. At some point, the short term hit probably shouldn't be losing out on the title in favor of competing for next year's title. Not saying that's what's going to happen, as we're still in with a shot. But criticism for some of the shit Havertz have shown this season is warranted, regardless of how he's playing now.

goon I'm honestly sure what your point is here. I'm sure everyone here has been wanting Havertz to come good, but in terms of "when you've signed them you may as well support them" surely goes for every player we have whether they're good or the worst signing we've ever made.

Like you say, whenever he has had a half decent game people will be positive because we want to be optimistic about our own team. It's not rational, but I'm guilty of this myself.
