I don't know what prompted us both to spend £120 million on two players who were significantly responsible for Chelsea's downfall, and then try to shoehorn both into the 8 role where they are complete passengers. Pep didn't make a single sub today and not for the first time. Fans think substitutions always add value, but that's obviously untrue as there's also the possibility it could have a negative impact. I would love to see what the data says but I bet it's not in favour in substitutes, unless you have a guaranteed game changer on the bench. Albeit, City's bench options were scant today but Guardiola is notorious for making few to no subs.

Also, City winning a tough game without the creative brain of Gundogan, De Bruyne and Silva. Truly demoralising.

When the game is finely poised, Guardiola is always very careful with his subs. It's obvious why when you consider that so much of what he wants his team to do is about cohesion and rhythm.

Ricky1985 Don't agree with that at all. We have seen many times that when things are level or that he sees something wrong, he switches things around very quickly and make impactful subs. Like the match against us at the Emirates when he introduced 2 subs, changed shape and won the game while we didn't react

When he's winning and it's tight, or even if it's level and closely balanced and getting to final third of the game, he often seems reluctant to make subs, I think because it interrupts rhythm and cohesion, but if he needs to alter the way the games going then changing the rhythm is exactly what he wants to do.

goon Signs were there last season, they staggered into the top four and ten Hag's aura was fading. New season with a ton of ongoing off field pressure and drama, and still caught somewhere between hanging on and rebuilding, I'm not clear why people have them as certainties to get top four.

Burnwinter always thought Ronaldo leaving gave them a new manager bounce effect. Getting that negative energy out of the dressing room was always gonna be big. ETH brand of football doesn't impress me though. Rashford carried them and ETH doesn't even have the sense to keep him in his best position. Get the feeling their season will depend entirely on how Hoijland settles and develops.
