He's definitely not a stupid player, but I wouldn't say he reads the game overly well myself. Decently but nothing more. It's why I think his performance level can vary quite a lot because his physicality is such a big part of his game. So, if he's not fully fit and firing, he can be a little all over the place.
He does have extremely good awareness of what's around him when he receives the ball and he sees progressive, line-breaking passes better than pretty much all other 6s around, but I think he lacks the sort of big picture thinking that the really elite 6s have/had. That lack of ability to see beyond the next pass or tackle affects his ability to accurately gauage risk imo. So, he'll play a line-breaking pass because he thinks it's on, but it'll put us right in the shit if he fails to execute, or maybe the guy he's passing to won't be able to do anything with the pass when he gets it anyway. That kind of thing.
