Clrnc klopp took 18 months to learn to modify his gegenpressing style to last a full season. maybe this title challenge came a year too early before arteta could learn these lessons, because theres been a litany of missteps that are fine if yourw chasing top 4 - but not if yourw chasing a title. feels like we really need a few more players with quality, durability and leadership to make artetas approach viable for a title run.

Coombs You can't call a grab-bag of chromosomal abnormalities done up in a polyester outfit and trained in a vocabulary of forty words and ten striker's runs a fully individuated human being. If he breaks any records this season it won't matter in my book.

Going to be a critical offseason to spot Jesus, Saka and Martinelli coverage.

Doubt Nelson sticks around, and who knows if ESR can spot them breathers. Trossard should have played more and will next season, but his flexibility (in where he plays) seems at odds with Arteta’s rigidness.

We’ve been teased a new CM signing but a wide forward is just as pressing.

Not mathematically. Utd got two games on us and 16 points behind. In theory they could win 24 points. Anyway won’t happen. We will finish 2nd.

Wengeresque capitulation thinking we can beat a superior side by ‘expressing ourselves’. Should have packed the midfield with Jorginho and Nelson and left Martinelli or Trossard up front to feed on whatever scraps they could get.

Instead we let them cut through the midfield and run at our backs from kick off. Suicide.

Oedegard is droppable right now.

Claudius Ramsdale and Ben White played well. Nelson and Trossard were lively when they came on.

Basically City had our number from the start, bigger and better players.

A few of our players showers their shortcomings.

Tactics

Claudius We lacked confidence and Arteta got schooled tactically: Guardiola decided to build up with 4 players instead of his usual 3, they sucked us in and hit it long to Haaland. Our midfielders/defenders were always at sea, which made it very easy for City to slice through us at will. The 1st City goal was a perfect illustration of their game plan. We were very lucky not to be 4-0 down by the 40th minute and just when it looked like we were going into the break 1-0 down, they scored from a set piece that looked offside to me.

I became very disinterested in the match after their 3rd goal went in as it was a very tough watch. We were totally outclassed but I remain convinced the gap isn't as big as it looked tonight. They played us at the perfect time (from their perspective) and have the much better manager tactically. Hopefully this will be a good learning experience for Arteta.
