Rohit arteta has never been the manager that can make the adjustments to get more out of less though. it was one of my main criticisms of him before the kronekes let their chequebook fly to bin off the whole squad and bring in the players arteta wanted. it's still his big flaw as a coach and I think it's one we're going to live as long he's here. he requires all the right pieces for his approach to work, same as pep. it's worked for us until it hasn't.

Yep, I have to agree. As much as I would have loved to see a title race really come down to wire, it’s clearly a formality now. This disappointment tonight is clearly going to fuel a run of elite mentality the likes that football has never seen before. City stand absolutely no chance now. It’s really a shame. Maybe next season will be more dramatic. Oh well.

Great fightback and at least some belief to take to City but realistically it's over now.
Another great impact from Nelson who again shows he perhaps should have played more. The decision to start Vieira over Trossard is just bizarre given how key Trossard was in that 7 game winning run. Is Vieira the most ineffective midfielder we've had since Denilson? There's probably someone more recent I've blocked from memory.

Rohit Odegaard really came alive at the end there.

He's a class act. A footballer I really admire. Neville on the commentary team actually had it right, it was only when we started keeping our approach play into the area on the deck that we started to really ruffle them.

True. They were on loan and played so little though they had disappeared from my memory. In fairness Kallstrom scored a penalty in the FA Cup semi final shootout so at least made one material contribution.

Nelson could've had the winning goal again if it wasn't for that block out of no where. He was great when he came on.

This game is still boiling my blood. Even winning against City won't make up for it. If anything I'd be happy but annoyed by the fact that we're not an extra 2 points up. We have to go full winner mode for the rest of the season to make up for it. I haven't lost complete faith because City are just insane. I'm 95% there though

naz @Big Willie @invisibleman18 Both are probably worse than Vieira, but neither of them set us back bloody £40m … I know the market's a challenge these days, but that amount of money ought to guarantee you're getting an actual contributor. If Smith Rowe is out of favour, it's a bit hard to believe some other Hale End kid wouldn't offer as much (Patino?).

Burnwinter its pretty obvious he's a flop. He actually offers less than Lokonga. Signing him I can accept, you can't get every signing right but I don't understand why Arteta keeps using him more than other options given the sort of performances he's putting in. Maybe if he can bulk up he'll become a player but right now he is too afraid to get into a physical battle that it renders him fairly pointless. He drifts around outside danger areas and when he gets it he moves it on too quickly because he's not confident he'll keep the ball under pressure. He's the opposite of what we need right now.

In zero solar systems should that fraud Vieira play ahead of Smith Rowe, in any position.

Watching him play for us is enough to make you thirsty for Declan Rice in his place, that's for sure. And yeah I have reflected he seems less useful than Lokonga too, who at least was relatively secure and functional in his role.

Wish that massive bid for Caicedo in the winter had panned out.

Burnwinter after watching Vieira completely fail to cover the space Zinchenko leaves, and watching Zinchenko not be aware enough to adapt to that problem I reckon Arteta wants Rice because he'll get back and cover that space well. I'm not convinced this is better than having a normal left back and a more creative midfielder.

Yeah for a while now missing out on Caicedo is looking costly. You can see Arteta isn't 100% convinced by Jorginho either.

We need one left back who is defensively focused. Both Tierney and Zinchenko have been well off it lately. If that player also has the grace and guile on the ball of a true central midfielder, great.

We were questioning where Tierney was against Liverpool but when he came on he gave up several terrible chances within minutes. It's unfair to ask him to do what Zinchenko does but he's not exactly lethal on the overlap either.

Zinchenko's had a flinch on a crucial block get deflected in, gotten monstered by Salah, and then let Culeta-Sar ghost off him for Southampton's third last night. He's barely a defender at present.
