Kel Varnsen he seemed as delighted as anyone else on the pitch after the game. After the year he's had I reckon he'll just be delighted to get some football. He'll get plenty more over the next few weeks, starting this Thursday.

Probably been mentioned earlier, but commentator on the coverage I had said with Xhaka dropping to the bench this was the first time since 1986 that we've started a game without a single player who made an appearance under Wenger.

Nah, 86. Cuz Under Wenger we had the Famous Back Four as well as the likes of likes of Seaman, Keown, Merson, Wright and Platt. The back 5 alone assuming at least one played in every game back to 86 is enough to make that stat true. Its not a stat of the players signed under Wenger turned out for us, its the player who played under Wenger turned out for us. Between 86 and yesterday every match day we had a player turn out for us who played under Wenger at one point or another.

IBL No it was 86 as Big Willie said. The late 80s would have had Adams, Dixon, Winterburn, Bould who all played under Wenger. I think even Merson might have played in Wenger's first season too. Then through the 90s before Wenger arrived add in the likes of Seaman, Keown and Wright.

Pretty sure Merse was still around under Wenger, yeah. Always had the impression his alcohol and gambling issues sort of washed him out of the squad as the Wenger wellness regime appeared.

I had not understood the stat correctly, thought the commentary had made a mistake when they said 86, but I see how they meant it now.

Not to hate on Xhaka gratuitously but it's another reason to look forward to him and one or two others departing.

Merse defo played under Wenger. I remember when he was sold Wenger offered him a new contract but he was offered more money and a longer contract at Middlesbrough so left.

Burnwinter love this. Thanks. I think a lot of us have replayed the goal again and again to just see what each Player did. Unfortunately there aren't enough camera angles to do justice to the frenzy that followed.

Not to spruik it, but The Athletic is pretty worth the subscription at the moment. I think I got a year of it at $1 a month on some sort of introductory offer towards the start of the season.

Barring the odd blog post or the extreme tactical nerdery you get from some other places, it's probably the best Arsenal coverage I'm seeing.
