because partey is already here ... and getting old. none of those players are signing with arsenal to hear "may the best man win." you can do that in different windows, but to sign havertz, rice (and one of those 3) in the same window isn't happening. you can twist yourself into a pretzel talking about more games being played and positionless play and no starters just finshers, blah blah. but as long as there is a starting XI big signings expect to be in it.
also, doing so would actually prove to everyone that we just spent 65m on havertz because he was available, not as part of some masterplan. in midfield you see the logic, but buying him as a flex sub for jesus, martinelli and saka is a recipe for disaster. if you sign FDJ there is no way the midfield isn't rice, FDJ and odegaard, so this weak finisher is now in the attacking 1/3 again. we might be spending a lot of money, but it isn't never ending like some other clubs. we need our big signings to be big hits.
