Yeah, he rejected their contract offers I believe. So obviously they're happy to get some cash rather than lose him for nothing and have moved to bring in a replacement. Hardly means they're desperate to get rid of him, he's their starting DM and vice-captain... but he was leaving them one way or the other.

HomeSteak I finally get it, when Arteta says we are short its not on numbers but rather quality. He don't rate Sambi at all. He did rate Elneny so when hes injured we needed a kinda similar like-for-like replacement.

Clrnc with Arteta it is about attitude as much as it is about quality. The likes of Elneny and Holding have accepted their place in the squad, work hard and try to do their job. From some accounts Lokonga hasn't been very happy with his position. I think we will be ok numbers wise, I am just not sold on Jorginho as a possible substitute for Partey in our team. I can't imagine Jorginho, Xhaka and Odegaard as a combination being able to hold their own despite their ability in the ball.

HomeSteak some of your assumptions are off here, we've played a 4-3-3 for like the last 12 months.

We had 2 players who could cover the 6 role for Partey. One got injured (Elneny) and the other (Sambi) isn't trusted. Hence Jorginho.

In the 8 position we have 4 players for the two positions, Ode, Xhaka and then Vieira and ESR.

Numbers were never the issue, it's about adequate cover.

goon But then adequate cover was not good in the summer either. And the 8 position I think your assumptions are very wrong. Lets say maybe, in the future ESR and Ode could play it, now? No. Vieira? If it's windy he cannot stay up right, he can never play that role.

Lets just dump the EL, and Xhaka - Partey can take one game per week until the summer, when maybe we will adress this.

Ode has been playing there for the last 12 months...

We beat Brentford away with Vieira in there too. Raw as they may be, both he and ESR have plenty of talent.

Agreed on cover at 6 not being good enough but like I said before you can't address all your needs at once even if Chelsea are doing their best to disprove that theory. But we signed a first choice CF, left back and extra competition for the 8 role in the summer.

Depends on who we're playing. I have no doubt we'd easily beat most teams in the league with that midfield. We're much better than most teams in the league, even with a few glaring weaknesses in our lineup.

Kel Varnsen You need some athleticism in the middle in this League even against the teams battling in the lower half of the table. Anyhow, what is done is done. City don't give the impression that all is well in their camp too. If we are 80% as good in the 2nd half of the season as we were in the first we will win the league. It has been a long time coming. Wenger could have won a title or two more with good January windows. If he had shown the same desperation in January to win the title as he did to save his CL place in the pursuit of Arshavin, he surely would have. Just hope we don't rue the same mistake.

I don't think he club can be faulted for not trying hard though. We have shown intent. It's ok for some fans to vent too. Another Chelsea over the hill player and the disturbing feeling that it might cost us this golden opportunity of a title. Liverpool in another era would have won back to back titles at least, if not more, in the last few seasons despite an incredible effort from the club. That's what it takes. Hopefully Jorginho can just be cover and we don't miss Partey. The title is ours to lose.

HomeSteak that has to be a joke right? Why would we extend a player who is injured for the next 9mths? He can do his rehab and train with us and then sign for someone on a free transfer. He doesn't need to be extended for that.
