It means very little and Chelsea, United, etc can easily come in with a more attractive offer. Just look at Mudryk.

It happens every window like clockwork. Some guys really can't handle rejection. Aston Villa and Brighton dug in and refused to sell, despite the players wanting to join. There's only so much you can do. We didn't have a plan B in the summer and people moaned about that. We do have a plan B in January and people are moaning about that too. People sure do love a moan.

He's coming in as a backup and Partey is playing once a week.

The problem is Lokonga leaving on loan. In theory we have cover for Partey, but none for Xhaka. ESR can’t cover it, and neither can Vieira.

We now need an 8.

I just hope Jorginho doesn’t stop the club from sorting out midfield properly in the summer. We need a top 6 and 8 in the next window.

Vieira came on as an 8 and won us the game against Wolves in the final game before the WC.

We have 4 x 8's and 2 x 6's. Numbers wise we are fine.

He's found a loophole in FFP and they're exploiting it. Enzo is 22 and will be over 30 when his contract is up!

I saw an interesting point on Twitter earlier, imagine if Newcastle had spent money like this. You'd probably have MPs and other human right organisations kicking off whereas Chelsea's ridiculous spending seems to be praised by the media here.

Can't fault their strategy , Chelsea have used the contracts loophole brilliantly. Only way it goes bad for them is if the team doesn't click and they miss out on CL . But with those players you wouldn't bet on it.

The PL messed up big time by allowing part of the takeover to be used on transfers specifically, with seemingly no rules attached to it.

All this has done is inflate the market.

What is Caicedo worth in the summer? Bellingham? 😭 Will probably be at least €150mil
Osimhen and Kravadona? Same.

Chelsea did this under Abramovich, and scandalously the Premier League has let it happen again under their watch.

Spreading a transfer fee over a longer term contract isn't exactly a loophole - we could have easily done the same. It's just a very risky move and that's why no one's done it before. I'm not suggesting that Chelsea will go bust over it rather they're likely to end up with a squad full of deadwood they can't shift.

Mirth Agreed, and it's not like they're spending as part of a coherent plan. They could be in some serious trouble if they're outside the CL in the coming years – they would need to rebuild the squad while being limited by a lot of big-money transfers from 5-7 years ago.

At the same time, it's possible that the money in the sport is growing so fast that those fees will be pretty nominal by then – the new Mudryk mk 2027 will cost £350m, etc. I guess that's what they're counting on. But the downside is pretty steep.
