We get bullied by Chelsea all window and end up PAYING THEM MONEY for a player they want to get rid of, with Edu clearly doing a favor we'll never get back in return.
He's a nasty piece of work that is hard to support for his cheating and on-pitch antics, regardless of who he plays for. He's slow as molasses and barely has anything left at the highest level.
Someone with all of the above is going to be the guy we have to tolerate when rapey Tom can't play. I wanted to see us move away from Partey by signing someone who could legitimately surpass him, not cement him as our only option for the rest of the season.

I couldn't care less about his fucking ball progression. Fuck this little rat right out of my club.

Hahahaa. He’s 22 with 2000 career league minutes, 250 of which are in Premier League. This season alone Saka has played over 1500 Premier League minutes.

Expecting Vieira to be magically productive and consistent from this starting point is unrealistic.

I haven't expected that at all, you just made it up for some reason. I just said that when we spend big money on 22 years olds, they should preferably be ones you're not afraid to sub on.

I’m saying that he is an inexperienced player. 22 is an inexperienced age for pretty much every position on the field. There is tons of data to support this. @Pepe LeFrits posted a graphic that shows peak ages by position. Expecting a 22 year old with 1500 minutes of Portuguese football to come and be a big contributor on a title chasing team is unrealistic.

So why did we get him? So we aren’t sitting here next year complaining that Vieira is being sold for £80m by some clever Portuguese club and we should’ve acted faster.

My feeling is Jorginho is close to the type of player Arteta wants for that 6 role. That's why I was (and still am) surprised by the Caicedo bids. I was also surprised with the links to Declan Rice until I went and had a close look at his stats and could then see why Arteta would want him as his 6 - he's a much better passer than I thought he was.

Anyway, if I ignore my distaste for Jorginho's Chelsea-ness and annoying personality, then I'm actually pretty stoked about this! If we're on top of the opponent playing our football, as we often have been this season, then Jorginho will be excellent for us.

It's actually mad that Chelsea have given us a player of such proven quality and experience when we're rivals (not the title this season but in general... they wont want us to win it that's for sure). This guy will be ready to go from minute one.

Claudius if what you're saying is that if we'd loaned him back to Portugal this season then he'd be worth 80m by season's end, and still think it's better to have him here, then okay I guess. If that's the case I think we should've loaned him back and bring in someone who could contribute.

Hopefully though, he'll be able to do that if it comes to it. Can't use the "we lost because we had to use Vieira" excuse when we bought him specifically as an Ødegaard backup (or, as some thought, someone who could bench him).

Massively underwhelmed with Jorginho. I'm not convinced that arteta is going to use him all that often and we've signed so many cast offs from United and Chelsea and they've been poor. William was wanted by edu and Arteta and he was a disaster. Just smacks of desperation but I guess we'll see.

Jorginho doesn't really have to track runs, press high, or even play against the best teams. He has to make himself available for a pass, keep the ball moving quickly and out of pressing situations, and cover space/offensive marking when we attack - all against teams we're expected to beat regardless. These are all things he'll excel at. He'll be fine.

As long as Partey is fit and available it'll be ok but we are still very much relying on his fitness.

Jorginho is better than Elneny but that a terribly low bar. That Lokonga is out on loan now makes us look light on numbers even more than the start of the month.

Do agree here. I wonder how much of that is down to Lakonga’s happiness at present. He wasn’t shy at letting his teammates know about his displeasure of a lack of minutes in the Prime documentary.

James I've wanted Lokonga to go on loan, he definitely needs it but we are short. Lokonga out with Caicedo in and Elneny fit would have been a much better situation.

Hopefully what this means is that they are pretty confident ESR will be fit enough to contribute when needed despite his recent niggles.

James Yeah, this is my reading of it too - the signals he's been giving off suggest he isn't all that happy and the club must know what whatever happens in the summer, he needs game time.

But indeed a bit concerning that we've ultimately lost two midfielders this month rather than just one...
