It’s sad that we are doing so well with the best forward-looking squad in the league, and we just have so much angst. I hate what Sky / uefa have done to football that winning these windows is almost more important than winning on the pitch.

All I know is I saw Trossard has played twice and looked great. It means we don’t have to stress about ESR and Vieria being big game options. Sorted. Hopefully, Jorginho can ramp up as quickly

Clrnc Bruno was already dominating Ligue1. We were both wishlisting him for 2 years before he went to Newcastle. Danilo is in a very different place developmentally. He’s not ahead of Lokonga.

The only difference now is unlike Lokonga, he will get minutes and ramp up. Look at what happens when good young players get senior minutes - Saka, Nketiah, Martinelli. They develop quickly. Btw, for this reason I am glad both Balogun and Saliba went to France.

goon there isn't really any doomsday sentiment though is there? There are a lot of people disappointed with a transfer. The whole "you are insulting the man who made Arsenal a club again" rhetoric in response is whats OTT.

A smart move would have been to bring in Danilo and loan Lokonga out. And given that Nottingham Forest seemingly signed Danilo without issue, I reckon Edu/Arteta must have had a look at him and decided he doesn't fit in their long term plans. Might prove to be the wrong choice but you would hope if that's the case they've got something better lined up for the summer.

Vieira is another guy who is a bit stuck. But if he was at Brighton, he would be playing daily and repeating his Portuguese super Liga heroics. Big teams would be calling. He is an output monster even though he hasn’t settled. Also important to appreciate some of these dynamics I. Our own squad

Claudius the players we buy for our bench, especially for big money, should be players trusted to come on late in games and start if the first XI equivalent player needs a rest. Vieira, apparently, isn't that.

QuincyAbeyie Vieria is a fucking kid who has played a bit do Portuguese league. The intel around him was if he had stayed another season in Portugal, there was a risk his price would spike the way all these other players’ pricing are spiralling. Go look at Vieira’s numbers. There isn’t a talent problem here. He probably just needs game time. But we can’t hand out developmental game time when we are chasing the 90+ points required to beat Pep.

I mean if he really wanted to force a move then he could have handed in a transfer request (etc.). Brighton gambled (correctly) on his character that this wouldn't happen and that's probably the main reason we couldn't force a move through.

Whilst it's not the profile of signing I'd have preferred (and we're all scarred by Willian), I can see the logic for this signing (don't think he's as bad as some are making out) particularly if it's an 18 month deal.

Clrnc This doesnt make for good reading I have to admit.

It doesn't, but I don't think you can really infer that much. Different times and circumstances. A lot of those players were signed to be first team players when we were really quite shit, which was problematic considering they were already surplus to requirements at rivals. Obviously Jorginho is surplus at Chelsea now too given their transfers, but he's been first choice DM at Chelsea all season, occasionally captaining them, and we're signing him to sit on our bench and provide cover.

Clrnc Not really - have definitely been players who have publicly expressed a desire to leave who have then ended up staying at their current club and playing well for the remainder of their time there. I'd expect Caicedo will do the same and will get a good move to a club (probably not us) in the summer.

Clrnc I think a transfer request has contractual ramifications, i.e. players ends up making a financial sacrifice.

Anyway, Caicedo can't really accuse us of leaving him hanging, we made a near club record bid for him and still received zero encouragement. It's not like Brighton set a price we didn't meet.
