also Independiente del Valle have a 20% sell-on clause so this is potentially a big payday for them and while brighton has a great relationship with IDV, if they fuck around and he goes for less this summer with more midfield options on the market unless they make them whole (20% of what arsenal were willing to pay in january) that relationship will be damaged because a club like that can't dismiss 2-3m. on the other hand if he goes for more in the summer then IDV will love them even more.

Clrnc my good man, I cannot emphasise enough how DeZerbi helped me get through the darkest days of Emery. Watching Sassuolo and Atalanta closely taught me a lot about effective and attractive football. Emery was a pox.

£70m is fine - there’s plenty of factors that probably make him a bit more expensive than if we signed him in the summer but none of it matters if we win the league.

As long as we don’t set a new club record, it’s fine.

I don't really care about overspending by £10m if he fits the long term plan. But the question isn't can we get better value in 6 months, it's can we get a better player.

I'm not all that clued up on what's out there, but I don't think we'll be able to do much better. We may as well go for it and give us what we need for this season.

Worth remembering he'll not only help the league campaign, but it'll also hopefully enable us to progress in the EL too and get us a long overdue European trophy.

Enzo is so incredibly talented. The most amazing thing for me is the recent fervour for young talent and the associated fees. Think back 5 years, and £20m for a 21 year old was an incredible outlay. Hence why I said the Saliba deal at the time was expensive - looks cheap with the way the market has evolved now.

So I think a few things happening

more daft money coming into the game, enables exuberant expenditure
more data and analytics by all teams enables mid table teams to find gems, and top teams to evaluate them quickly enough to take a big bet on them.
FOMO, given that the truly top talents really distinguish themselves. There’s nothing like Lewandowski and Haaland in striking. If you might have the next one, do it
