Definitely a huge strike. Though I think it seems like the stories are changing from "not for sale no matter what" to "Brighton want more money".

Also secures long term quality in that area.

We should go ahead and do it. A few things that make this different to the Mudryk deal in terms of would you pay a ton of money right now - this amount
1) The guy is premier league proven. 25-30 games playing a key role in the best league in the world is a massive sample. He always starts, doesn’t get taken off. Tons of data here, that he profiles well as an emerging DLP for us
2) Partey - everyone here is worried about Partey as a single point of failure. This isn’t like the wings where Jesus, Nketiah, ESR, Vieira can all rotate in. This is Lokonga dropping us back to League 1
3) Time - we are out of time. If we don’t get this deal done on the 29th/30th, we will be left with nothing, versus the Mudryk discussion which gave us enough time to get Trossard done last week

everyone knows how Brighton do business. they get premium fees for their players. one would hope edu and co arent surprised by how Brighton are behaving given how late we are in the window, or being led down a garden path by caicedos agents.

This doesn’t feel like it’s going to happen if I’m honest. I just think we have left things a little too late for this critical position at this critical time.

We have known since last season that we needed a good Partey alternative, yet here we are at the last minute. Offering almost 100m for a kid from Ecuador who is barely established in the premier league. It’s sub-optimal.

Don't care who we sign, but we need another cm so that we can reduced the quality drop off from Partey to his backup. As everyone has been saying, that could very well be the difference between winning it and finishing 2nd.

I don’t quite get how this narrative is so prominent. Partey, Sambi, Odegaard and Vieira have all signed in the last 3 years. Two of them key components of a title challenging XI.

Ideally we’d have signed someone better than Elneny/Sambi in the summer but you can’t do everything at once.

I think we are much better now than we were under Dick Law. We have quickly built a challenging squad. But what that also means is that players who improve this team become harder to find than a year ago.
