Not sure why we are all shitting heavily on Merino. Let's shit on him more gently if at all.
He's far from the greatest talent in our squad and is getting a bit long in the tooth, but he's a useful squaddie and signing him got us Zubimendi, making him easily worth his fee.
As @Speedster has been emphasising by way of entertaining and vaguely plausible speculations about Merino's neurotype, Merino is adaptable and does a job wherever he's put. That makes him a helpful counterpart in the squad of those players who are physical or technical outliers but struggle with execution.
