Gazza M been thinking about the goal Saka scored against Forest last week. It didn't get tonnes of attention, but I genuinely think it might be one of the best goals I've ever seen live.

First the touch to bring the ball down, then the give and go with Ødegaard. Everyone knew what he was trying to do as he dribbled across the area, he still managed to do it - and then the power on the shot back across goal with not a huge amount of backlift.

It reminded me both of a goal David Rocastle scored up at Liverpool 88/89 and Lionel Messi - I can give no higher praise than that!

Claudius seen a tweet earlier saying he's past comparisons to Foden, Palmer, etc and it's Salah, etc now. He's up there with the very best in the world. Salah is the best PL player since Henry and Saka is at his level.

One pleasing thing I noticed.. Saka’s shots are way up. He has 40 shots this season, placing him 5th behind Haaland, Semenyo, Palmer and Salah. We haven’t had someone taking that many shots in a while. What we possibly see as the season progresses is his assist numbers come back down to a more normal range, and goals go up.

Big Willie you know I just had to drop it back then. Even our fans were incredibly slow to recognize the type/level of player Saka is. I feel the gentleman, and his pain. Remember when I was told he was going to be very good, but that in comparison Martinelli had a higher ceiling, and the potential to be world class. That he was an option to be used at left back I think just to accommodate Pepe or to cover injuries in that position, or some shit like that. Bukayo Saka. With all he had shown us. Back up left back? I wanted to go mad.

Anyway, I just want refs to give the kid the protection he deserves. That's all I ask. He's been lucky / robust so far, but with the sort of treatment he is subjected to nearly every game , and what the refs choose to allow against us/him, it doesn't bode well for his long term career. Lots of miles on this kid already

flobaba my perspective on Saka and Martinelli back in the day was that Saka was more of a sure think because of his technical grounding and work ethic. I thought Nartimelli had a higher variance in outcomes. As time progresses, it’s clear Saka will be the better player. Martinelli should’ve been a better Walcott. But he’s not even going to be much better than Theo at this rate

Martinelli has lost his fearlessness. Used to take on prime Kyle Walker with some success, these days he’s apprehensive against slouches like De Ligt and Maguire.

goon there was a chance where Martinelli was 1v1 with Maguire and instead of going either on the outside or the inside he just tried to shoot, even though the Fridge was directly between Martinelli and the goal. Obviously, the shot was easily blocked.

That's one of the ones that stuck in my head. He had him at an angle too so it would have been so easy to catch him square.

The other one he had De Ligt 1v1 on the wing with acres of space. Instead of using that space he went right night to him man and allowed him to get a foot in. Should just be driving inside early in those situation or going full pelt on the outside. He's not a Saka that can take time, be cute and use stepovers or a quick swivel of the hips to beat his man, he needs to play and think at 100mph so the opposition doesn't have time to work him out.

It's 90% attitude/belief and just knowing how to use your skills best, which still gives me some hope that he can overcome it to reach another level by the end of the season.

QuincyAbeyie Do you remember recently vs Pool, he was in a similar situation. He had been struggling against Konate all gam, was on the counter, and then decided that he would beat Konate early on the outside. Two seconds later, TAA was feeding an open Salah for the goal.
I wonder to what extent these guys think about risk when they make their attacking decisions. He has been conservative, and what you need from that outlet winger is much more of a gung-ho approach

QuincyAbeyie he tried to play that shot through his legs. Obviously he fucked it up but its worth a try because when it works it really unsights the keeper.

Nah, I think we've seen the best of him, unfortunately. He lost a bit of pace after his injury and that has made him a bit less explosive and he can't get away from his defender as cleanly as he used to be able to. What is more concerning for me is his decision making like you guys have noted. He makes a lot of not great decisions in the final third. His work rate is key though. He rarely shirks that duty and that's largely why hes in the side ahead of Trossard. The sooner we upgrade, the better
