goon I remember the summer we sold Vieira and then failed to sign Baptista. Sometimes circumstances conspire, agents play you (etc.).

What I'm saying is that I think it's a sound strategy, I'm just not sure we're actually employing it in this case.

QuincyAbeyie If we somehow pull this off this summer, our midfield is set for the next 3-5 years. The change in athleticism and energy in our midfield would be incredible. Just imagining how aggressively we could press teams with those two in addition to our forward line is mouth watering.

Would rather keep Jorginho. Since Lokonga went on loan we've been short numbers in CM; we largely got away with it because Xhaka is a machine. With Xhaka going to need to add 2 CMs without losing any others.

Rice, Caicedo, Partey and Jorginho is a good set of CMs.

A bit much to say he has regressed, I think the guy just can't keep himself fully fit.

If rumours are true about Rice & Caicedo am guessing two of Xhaka, Partey & Jorginho will go. Xhaka is defo off so leaves one of Partey & Jorginho.

Qwiss True would be ideal to keep him but I wonder if there is more going on here. His fitness is an issue but there is also his legal issues but whether he'd want to stay as backup if we sign two players. He's just turned 30 so the club might see this as a chance to recover some money.

As poor as he was in the run in he was as important as any other player prior to that.

What he lacks in running ability, he makes up for in lack of sex offending.

I don't think it's quite as clear cut as Jorginho or Partey. But in any case for footballing and fitness reasons there has to be a plan to transition Partey out in the next couple of years, and if that's the case why not just do it now while we can?

FEBravo thats why you buy both of Ricedo, get the 3 of them rotating and actually manage players fitness.

JazzG as I say above I think he needs more fitness management. He was broken half the previous season and we pushed him pretty hard this season. He's still an excellent player if managed properly.

@Tam Surely for football reason the plan has to be to transition out Jorginho in the next couple of years as well.

QuincyAbeyie Oh yeah absolutely. I didn't comment on him because I don't, and don't think Arteta would, see him as an integral part of the team or something which we'd be looking to build around. Partey on the other hand is fundamental to the way we play.

The big hope for me going into this season is that we become less reliant on individuals within the team and more capable of absorbing their absences.
