Would explain why Xhaka's departure hasn't been confirmed by the club yet but can't imagine (a) that Leverkusen will be willing to wait all summer or that (b) that we'll be able to sign a Rice/Caicedo quickly.

I don’t buy it personally and think the premise is dumb. If you’re willing to sell then sell, and back yourself to do what you need to do.
They are just trying to get a fair price. Xhaka was one of the top mids in the league this season.
goon I remember the summer we sold Vieira and then failed to sign Baptista. Sometimes circumstances conspire, agents play you (etc.).
What I'm saying is that I think it's a sound strategy, I'm just not sure we're actually employing it in this case.

Xhaka out - Rice in
Jorginho out - Caicedo in
QuincyAbeyie If we somehow pull this off this summer, our midfield is set for the next 3-5 years. The change in athleticism and energy in our midfield would be incredible. Just imagining how aggressively we could press teams with those two in addition to our forward line is mouth watering.
Might rival Vieira - Petit as the best central midfield pairing I've seen at Arsenal.

Would rather keep Jorginho. Since Lokonga went on loan we've been short numbers in CM; we largely got away with it because Xhaka is a machine. With Xhaka going to need to add 2 CMs without losing any others.
Rice, Caicedo, Partey and Jorginho is a good set of CMs.

A bit much to say he has regressed, I think the guy just can't keep himself fully fit.
If rumours are true about Rice & Caicedo am guessing two of Xhaka, Partey & Jorginho will go. Xhaka is defo off so leaves one of Partey & Jorginho.
Rice, Caicedo and Gundogan in, Xhaka and Partey out. I could live with that.
Yeah we'd need 3 in if 2 go out unless we are serious about ESR as left 8.
