Don't feel its a smoke screen. All our big signings recently has been very public, and when failed it was very public as well. I don't for one think those failed deals were on purpose to be a smoke screen.

Clrnc I hear you but from what I recall, the public links to most of those players occurred as a result of negotiations with the selling club (not before). I doubt West Ham are willing to talk to us (and vice versa) whilst they're battling relegation.

We've also had players like Tielemans where we were strongly linked for a good 6-12 months where nothing happened.

Don Pacifico I think this guy is well linked at West Ham, I'm sure he's regarded as super reliable when it comes to them.

I think the fee will probably be around the £75m-£90m mark, it is steep but not my money so I don't care! You always pay premium for British players and also players with PL experience.

High profile signings will always be public, you’re not going to get an £80-100m transfer over the line in secret.

I’d always take stories like that with a pinch of salt. It may be that Rice has decided to join us hence the leaks, but then Mudryk also decided to join us until he didn’t.

Still, I expect this to happen. Too much noise, too early from too many reliable sources for it not to.

AFAIR, Tielemans links were never solid tier 1 like from Romano or Orny.

Mudryk had very solid links months before we even opened negotiations, but most importantly someone like Jesus was very reliably reported by many and the way Rice is reported reminds me of that.

HomeSteak I thought as much, seen him pop up before when it comes to West Ham news. We have defo done the groundwork on this deal. West Ham will try to ignite a bidding war but as long as we have the player on our side we should get this over the line.

Gazza M Will push the price up but as long as we can agree a deal with West Ham I think he'd choose us. Not like we are gonna be offering him poverty wages. Also if the player rejects the club they'll back off pretty quickly.

He spoke glowingly and admiringly about us during his post game interview in the first leg at the Emirates this season. Thought was a bit weird how complimentary he was being - I guess we must have been working on this behind the scenes for a while. I'll wait till it's all official before I begin to get excited about having him with us. But he's a very good player. Fantastic engine, fantastic attitude, good leader, technically better than most in his position and defensively tuned in. Will be a huge upgrade on Xhaka and a very good replacement for LaRapist if that's the role Arteta sees for him. Let's not mess around with this one. Get it done.

Caicedo, he's already great and has world class potential. Rice will never be world class.
