Qwiss Got 1-2 reasons in my mind but I am totally guessing Liverpool may have shifted the target over to Caicedo, with a different kind of CM additionally on their list. I'd be more relieved if it was MacAllister though.

Would be pretty sweet if we scooped Rice for say £80m the day after the window opened, and it "came out" (it was leaked) that he'd said he wouldn't accept any other destination.

BBC have just reported West Ham saying they won't talk to clubs about Rice until the season has finished. Makes sense to be honest so I'd be a bit dubious of the suggestion we've already got an agreement with them in place.

Sicario2 - Tier 1 you're right, they do but if they stay up (as looks likely) and Rice performs well (as he has done), it gives them a better negotiating position when it comes to agreeing a price.

I don't doubt that we'll have had conversations with his agent but as with Mudryk, Suarez (and others) it'll come down to whether we can agree a deal with the selling club.

Unless there's something Arsenal-specific about a deal for Rice that's good for West Ham. For instance the theory Balogun might go to them, not sure if that has any legs.

Might not be relevant if Rice has chosen us. You see it all the time especially with players going to Barcelona, Madrid or Juve.

They'll also have a good idea what interest is like for him, and I don't imagine there will be too much competition for a big money move for Rice. Even if there was, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for them to agree a sizable up front fee that they know they'd be happy with, and then use interest to haggle over favourable clauses.

goon If they have a good idea what other interest is like, it'll be because they've informally invited other bids. If they're using other interest to haggle over clauses, same deal.

I reckon the real motivation to sew up this kind of deal early is mainly to de-risk the next one you're lining up. But that doesn't stop United coming in £20m ahead of us as Chelsea did with Mudryk. The Premier League hasn't ever had so much of that Madrid, Juve, Bayern syndrome you mention.

Overall it's hard to credit this being all the way done at this stage.

Yeah I don't think it's done either and fully expect it to drag on. I just wouldn't be surprised to see informal agreements or indicators to be in place.

JazzG the drive from midfield is one of the things I'm most excited about with him, because none of our other midfielders can do it. partey maybe, but his role doesn't really permit it. it adds another dimension to what xhaka offers

JazzG Wilshere comes to mind but in a much different style. Rice is far more powerful and covers ground so quickly. I really hope we can get him in quickly.
