Its definitely not in FIFA's best interest to have Ronaldo sit out the first 2 games of the WOrld Cup, thats for sure. I thought maybe they would reduce it to 1 game, but not at all surprised they erased all of it.

USArsenal they didn't erase any of it. They said he'll do 1 match suspension before the world cup and that the other two can wait until after the tournament. Which is somehow worse because it's so blatant what they're doing.

Does it matter? He was grabbing onto his shirt, just like every other defender does to every forward tussling in the box in almost every game. The other forwards don't rear back their elbow and plant it into their backs. It's called violent retaliation, and is a red with a 3 match ban all day long.

If he lashed out without provocation then fair enough or tried to seriously hurt the guy that’s different. The guy was pushing and grabbing his shirt so he elbowed him in the back. He rightfully got a red card and should get a one match ban and imo that should be it. Ronaldo should know better though, not the first time he would have experienced something like that.

That is clearly down to Trump leaning on them which is unacceptable. This is a professional tournament and can't have influential people twisting arms to get favours like this.

Yeah, because thats NEVER been done before.. (influential people trying to get something favorable). That said, there is literally no actual evidence of Trump's involvement, though i wouldn't exactly be surprised. I would be surprised if the leader of ANY country that was about to host a World Cup wouldn't try to do the same thing for one of the worlds biggest stars to be able to play.

Though im sure the Portugal team would actually be better without him starting.

Sorry, but in what world is this not an automatic 3 match ban for violent conduct? Pulling shirts and pushing is literally an every-game occurrence. Elbowing someone square in the back is not.
