So let’s not look too down on it too much. This is not the Europa Conference League where you get rewarded for finishing 7th.

This time I agree. Doesn’t matter if it’s prestigious or not, that prize money can make a lasting difference and increase your odds of winning the league and CL. Hope Chelsea don’t get close.

Bet they expand the tournament in 4 years. It’s a shameless cash grab so they’ll definitely want to include United, Liverpool, us and Barcelona - otherwise that kind of prize money won’t fund itself

Rivalries aside I do honestly worry about the welfare of the players.

This tournament finishes on July 13th and Prem starts on like August 16th. Literally some are playing all year round. Not sustainable and there will be more Rodri type injures next year.

Good that our guys getting a proper rest this summer but feel for the others.

It will be interesting to see how the teams who are taking part in this tournament start the league. Last season after the euros you could sense some players took a lot longer to get going and looked tired for much of the season.

I don't particularly see it as a serious tournament, other than the prize money. Its an off season tournament, and yes, there are some decent European teams, but then teams like Auckland and well, any of the MLS teams.

Sicario2 it's a made up competition to boost the profile of Saudi football. It definitely doesn't count.

It does however pay extremely well and I'm suspicious about the qualifying criteria.

Wow. Decided to tune into CWC. It’s 6-0 at half time in Bayern vs Auckland. There goes that idea. Farcical.

Claudius the Auckland team are only semi pro and the players all had to take annual leave and/or unpaid leave to go. And it's not even the full team as some players couldn't get the time off work. Makes the tournament a farce having the likes of Bayern playing these opposition and calling it a real tournament but is what it is. Australia moved continents and NZ's only professional teams are in their league so this is the Oceania Champions. Great memory for the players to be able to say they played against Bayern.

Won't affect them that much. If anything they can use the competition to bed the new signings in. City especially will have that advantage especially in attacking areas where they can rotate freely

I disagree with this very much. Especially if clubs go further in the tournament, its just more football that they have to play (new signings or not) Many of the players will have had a long season, then the Euros, then another long season, and then the CWC... Thats a lot of football will not a lot of down time. I think that is a problem that affected both us and City this past season.

I didn't even know this had started and now I do I won't be following it. Need a rest from footy this summer I think to get up for the next season feels like we've had way too much football the last few years.

It's more of an issue for established players. I don't think the incoming signings like Gonzalez, Marmoush, Ait Nouri, Cherki etc. have played as much football so it's a great opportunity for them to play together and start the season strongly.

daredevil they'd get that in a pre-season where they could manage their minutes more carefully. The CWC is great for Citys FFP situation but for the players its definitely a drain.
