Forget Ronaldo, how good is Nuno Mendes? Holy crap. Best fullback in the world by a wide, wide margin. The way he single-handedly destroyed both Spain and Germany in these games. Arsenal have signed enough left-backs to put together a starting eleven in recent years - how come they missed this guy?

Klaus didn’t they pay like £35m for him when he was only 20? But agree he’s been so good, been a long time since I’ve seen a fullback defend and attack as well as him.

Testament to Saka that he caused him all sorts of issues because this season he has clamped down Salah and Yamal.

Leao created more danger but he came into the game later, Williams started well.but faded out of the game as it went on. If I had to pick one I'd go Leao for his individual quality and ability to beat his man.

Sicario2 I remember back in the day (2003-2004) I used to debate on old football forums that Reyes would have a better career than Ronaldo. How wrong was I.

At the time Reyes looked like he would be a better player, you can only call things as you see them, can't control what happens in the future. The Man Utd fans say a lot now but back when he first joined nobody expected him to hit these heights. It was clear he would be a decent player but not this good. I know as I used to be on Redcafe a lot at the time and remember what they used to say.

Mirth in Nations League defense, this is quickly turning into my favorite tournament. The structure encourages teams to be competitive throughout. The seeding puts strong teams against each other, and the incentives around seeding points and tournament byes encourage focus.

These semi finals and final were some of the most enjoyable international football I’ve watched recently. UEFA /fifa are always messing around in the name of greed, but this is a winner

Mirth did you see the way CR7 cried when he won it yesterday? I think he is the true barometer given he’s won everything in the game bar a World Cup.

The Portuguese fans and players celebrated. This may have been a glorified friendly tournament when it started but it’s evolved into a credible tournament.

For someone who has never seen their team win a CL or win the league in 21 years or seen their nation (assuming you support England) win anything you do put your nose up at most trophies/tournaments. We can’t be that arrogant.

Sicario2 the easiest way to hoodwink you is to wrap a turd in tinfoil and call it a trophy.

Your right that it's embarrassing to not win the major trophies but that doesn't mean then mean UEFA's cash grab replicates the same status.

Spend real money on carefully qualified, prime age star central defenders, midfielders and goalscorers.

Speculate with middle range sums on possible generational talents in the same positions.

Scoop up, develop or convert secondary forwards and fullbacks.

We've been able to make do relatively well with ball-playing central defenders as fullbacks.

I don't say Zinchenko, Timber and Calafiori haven't given or don't give us plenty over a crocked White and Tomiyasu, an uneven Kiwior, an inexperienced Skelly and an occasional Tierney, but that £70–100m could've gone a long way to signing a great striker.

Sicario2 That conversation was settled, 2 x Copa America and World cup between 2021-2024 finished this argument off. That world cup win by Messi, he was one of the driving forces not just a member of the squad.

So the CWC started tonight. Halftime of Al Ahly v Inter Miami (0-0). I would be surprised if Miami scores 2 goals in this tournament, even with Messi. I can't believe Al Ahly is not winning about 4-0 yet, they have completely dominated the first half. Though Messi did hit the post at the end of the first half.

Wenger is in the stands sitting with (Sir) Beckham to watch the game.

Sicario2 it's a made up competition to boost the profile of Saudi football. It definitely doesn't count.

It does however pay extremely well and I'm suspicious about the qualifying criteria.

Big Willie no. Here you are have multiple games and up against some of the best teams and players in the world. Also the prize money is nuts (on par with winning CL) and you can call yourself ‘the best club in the world’. So yeah, think this one kinda counts.

Sicario2 the only good teams in it are from Europe, which is a selection that apparently includes Porto. Within the context of the CL, it means nothing.
