KingslandBarge To be honest they protected Burn excellently all game long. There were times where we intentionally tried to bring all of the game to the left side and draw them in to isolate Saka on the other flank, but they didn't fall for it at all.

Qwiss Yeah, I think we could have definitely done with Vieira off the bench. I can understand Arteta betting on Martinelli and Saka over Marquinhos though.

Need to get that Mudryk deal over the line ASAP.

For sure. Bad call not bringing him on, he's got a finishing touch that can win you a game. Can sort of understand, though. He's very lightweight still.

I would have liked to have seen him brought on to play on the left, either in Martinelli's spot or Xhaka's. He produced a key moment there for us similarly earlier in this season (don't remember against who, but it was another difficult game).

Coombs Newcastle was very physical Vieira would be eaten up alive.

It's quite clear Arteta doesn't think our attacking options off the bench is any good

Not possible. This has been worked on for a year. This is the best defensive performance we’ve faced in the Mikel era. It was a Simeone type defense were 80% of effort is dedicated to disrupting the opponent’s efforts. Two very solid banks of four that rotates with the play to prevent any on-the-ball progression. And good use of triangles to close down players. It was elite defense.

Spurs would never be able to replicate this next week. We would break it down after 10 minutes.

Clrnc If you can't bring Vieira on in a game like this when can you? He didn't come on when we were 3 up at the weekend either. If he never plays how can he get ready for moments where we might need him?

nketiah, martinelli and odegaard got muzzled completely. everyone else was solid. Newcastle defended like a mid 2000s rafa/jose era team, it almost felt weird to watch given how much the epl has evolved. awful to watch, right down to the threatric synchronised 'cramp' they all suffered from at the end

love marti to bits, but we do need to freshen up there. he still picks the wrong option and takes a few touches more when the ball meeds to be moved quicker. mudryk would be a very timely addition for us

Frustrating but not the worst result against another in form team. Finishing touch just not quite there and lack of attacking options outside of the first 11 looks like it could start to hurt. Some investment is essential.

Needed to beat them today , City will probably bring it back to 5 points. United are in good form as well , now 9 points off us

We didn’t do enough to win the game. Looked a little tired, and just lacked a bit of quality and urgency to move the Newcastle back line around and break through those lines.

Reminded me of the 0-0 vs Burnley last season. Little options off the bench, and a sense of recruitments needed to get us to where we want to be.

I thought it was a good performance tonight, 3rd best side in the league fighting for their lives. These wankers have an insane work rate, not surprised to see 4 or 5 of them struggling with cramp (even if I’m sure they were milking it).

Nights like this you need two things to go for you. First you need to be killer in the final third and we got the final ball or shot wrong time and again. B you need the ref to do his job.

But we go again. 7 points from West Ham, Brighton and Newcastle not bad at all. Over to you Potter.
