BloodOnTheTracks you sure picked a time where the flavor will definitely be sour with a hint of salt.
Come and have one more in the Tolly π» βthe Intro Thread
BloodOnTheTracks this is the place for someone your age, away from the rapid fire nature of the twitter and discord discussions filled with restless youth. Welcome! Tell us why you hate Odegaard
BloodOnTheTracks Welcome mate. Can you also please share with us your opinions about the validity of xG?
Thanks for the welcome everyone. Much appreciated.
Generally I'm not a stats guy in most respects, they've got a place but I think generally your better off trusting your eyes, you know who's playing well and who's not or which side has created the better chances in a match.
Stats and stuff are fine but I also think the individual needs to understand the context of them and I feel at times there's just not that understanding.
I honestly think if if the social media stuff was around in the 90's /early 2000's there would be some hipster coming up with data to complain about Henry's relative weakness in the air or Pire's tackle percentage wins!
BloodOnTheTracks Correct answer. Congratulations on passing the final OMITT membership test. You're in.
But ze fachts don't get biased like we do, amigo. Stats help you peel off layers, understand nuances, explore improvement avenues. For or against any player, The xG is the xG.
Or something like that, am i right or am I right, Comrade leClaude?
There's an easy way to determine if a measurement is good or bad in any given situation.
Does it support my strongly expressed judgement, which is always correct? If not, then the measurement is clearly wrong.
flobaba you have to use data correctly. that's all. i can throw out any number i want and scare people with it, if i want. it's my job to work with companies to use the right data for the right decisisons. but also to focus on the human side of things. in my experience, it's important to get the data spot on, but the human side of things ends up being 75% of the solution - i.e., behavioral change, getting the right skillsets in etc.
It will be the same in football. I can show you all the data you want, but if your attack doesn't have a player like Mbappe, Isak or Salah who can make space for himself to take shots, then there is only so much you can do with the xG. You can try run some different plays, but you're always going to have fundamental limitations
Welcome BOTT / Blood - hmmm. Anyway, welcome! Good to have some new, um, blood.
I guess we should welcome hadi and Tom to the forum...

QuincyAbeyie I guess we should welcome hadi and Tom to the forum...
Think @Asterix jumped the gun in welcoming the BOTT. Seems he brought all his mates with him.
Edit: Must have been the first required bit of modding in years. @Claudius did say he was trying to get some new fresh blood in here.
Oh no, what happened?
Bots came in and created 4 new threads advertising Temu.
Pukki? We're not that desperate.
Claudius 4? More like 30
