JazzG Seen this on my timeline again and if we can keep Jorginho around I wouldn't mind spending big on him and easing him into the side. He is 19 so even if we overpay in the long term it won't matter as much.
Looks a good player but not Jorghino-ish or Partey-ish in his forward passing. More like a shorter and less powerful Rice.
The more I think of it, the type of passing and ball control required in that position would be like almost having an attacking midfielder just playing much deeper. He needs to have a good ability to tackle and press, but should be positionally disciplined and able to both control the tempo and get the ball quickly to our forward players bypassing multiple players. A Cazorla, Pirlo, Mendieta, Modric, Xavi type.
If we had a second Odegaard that would be amazing to have at the base getting the ball deep, quickly evading pressue and passing forward to Odegaard 2. And with his stamina, running speed and agressiveness in tackling he'd probably be a great CM in the deep playmaking role. Unfortunately we only have 1 of him and he's much more important to us further forward.
Think we may be better off looking for more AM type players who have shown an ability to be positionally smart and having the workrate discipline to be shifted further back like we did with Cazorla. Having Rice in there like Gattuso was for Milan will help with the defensive burden but will give us so much more in attack and buildup.
