Maybe Guardiola's looked at Kovacic and realised there's no way he can make a Gundogan out of him. Otherwise, you'd have to wonder why on earth they'd leave it until now to move on Paqueta? Really poor business by them.

Ricky1985 I think the Saudi league pulling in a number of "legacy" Premier League midfielders has inflated some of these deals dramatically. We did quite well getting a lot of business done early in this window as the high fee for Rice is starting to look very rational in this context.

Ricky1985 an elite-shot stopper (prime De Gea) with De Gea's faults isn't a "dreadful goalkeeper", that's all I was replying to. There are plenty of ways to describe someone between "top GK" and "dreadful".

To use your example that there's a reason nobody is touching him with a bargepole, there's also a reason why Real Madrid tried to sign him as their new goalkeeper when he was actually good.

goon he took a while to adapt, was pretty excellent, as good as Rice, over the latter half of the season. He's a good player but I'm not sure he's at the level of Bilva, Gundogan, etc I guess we'll see. I think City will get more and more reliant on Haaland as time goes on, I reckon KDB will play less games this year than last, Peps been minding him for a while.

Big L for City, losing out on Rice and crawling back for Paqueta. Though likely a different kind of motivation, potentially part of the refresh plan as KdB/Bernardo phase out.

West Ham meanwhile losing Scamacca, Rice and Paqueta after that early summer glory with not major acquisition. Yikes. Edit: sounds like a few are inbound v. soon

Wonder what’s brought about this sudden shift, one minute they’re haggling over £5m for Lavia, then rumours are Chelsea are signing Caicedo + Lavia and now this! Wonder if Chelsea have force their hand on this.

Chelsea won’t get criticism but imagine if arsenal had been quoted £100m for a player and went in with 4/5 bids well below that. When finally met the valuation another club swooped in. Media would have this on the front page of their papers.

Liverpool looking like bullshitters as well over backing out for Bellingham. Said they couldn’t afford it but looks like they could. They just don’t want to admit he wasn’t interested.

Caicedo has gone from going public in January about wanting to join us, to going on strike for Chelsea to ending up at Liverpool 😆

naz Caicedo is better now but Lavia also has huge potential. Reckon within a couple years the difference won’t be that big. Lavia also a more natural No.6 whereas Caicedo a bit more of an all action midfielder.

Caicedo is perfect for Liverpool make no mistakes about it. Can cover RB when TAA shifts into Midfield. Huge game changer for them and they will be up there for the title now

wow and to think we thought 105m for rice was crazy high. fuckin paqueta going for 110m euros. and caceido for the same number in pounds. good thing we got our buys in early, now we can benefit from this crazy market right now with our sales.

For all the moaning about us spending big. Chances are United, City, Liverpool and Chelsea will out spend us this summer.

Anyways 110 is a pure rip off. Caicedo is decent but I just don’t think he’s elite. Good hustle, plays it simple but he gets done an awful lot, it’ll get shown up more at Liverpool with a brighter spotlight. Certainly wouldn’t have wanted him in place of Partey. Only attraction would have been for the inverted right back role but Timber looks much better suited for that.

Anyway Kane costs 120m euros. Insane how many 100m deals there are in 2023. Its becoming the new 50m.

Edit: just realised Bayern also tried to bid for Caicedo but failed. I wonder if we had gone up to 90m in January would they have accepted

Kudus still can't get an agreement with Brighton due to the release clause that Brighton doesn't agree to. Tony Bloom really scared the young players away
