They're paying £53m for someone who is still very raw but clearly has potential to be a top player. I think with the state Man Utd are in it makes sense to gamble on a top youth prospect who could become a superstar defender.

Pepe LeFrits We paid £27m for Saliba, it was a lot but this transfer puts Yoro up there in the Top 10 all time transfer fees. That same summer Maguire joined Man Utd for £80m! I don't think the centre back market has more than doubled in that time, especially when you consider he's available for free next summer.

Strikers go for more money and I don't think Martial had a year to go on his contract.

I think this fee for Yoro is pretty on par with what we did with Saliba as @Pepe LeFrits stated and hardly breaks the market since he is pretty universally thought of as the next potential world class CB. I think the fees for Maguire and Fofana were far worse for the market since it set a benchmark for price for EPL CB's with only a season or two of success/experience under their belt (now Braithwaite).

Two top European clubs walked away from that kind of money and looks like Liverpool who were also interested didn’t go further either.

He might turn out great and look like a bargain in the future but when you spend that kind of money you are taking a massive risk. Martial looked like he might be the next Henry but at that age all they are showing is talent.

It took 2 loans for Saliba to really hit his level and for some of that time we wondered whether he would make it here.

JazzG United are at a low ebb and extremely rich. As much as we want to poke holes in this deal it makes sense to out bid these other teams and get in a player they can build around.

I would have thought more clubs would be in for him at that kind of money. Up until recently they've briefed the press that it was release clause or nothing.
