I'm surprised Chelsea want him as well. Lavia, Caicedo & Enzo seems like a very defensive midfield to me. I suppose it would let them play three at the back and use James and Chilwell as wing backs.

Also something dodgy going on with Chelsea, I know they've sold a lot of players but they've also spent a fucking shit load. They aren't in Europe and don't even have a shirt sponsor. UEFA have clamped down on these long contracts loophole but I don't think the PL have.

I bet their new shirt sponsor will probably be exactly how much their short to comply with FFP.....

JazzG they are balancing immediate bookings of sales with the long amortisation of these mega deals. So on their income statements, these big deals are only £10-15m of expense each a season instead of double that. It’s incredibly smart in the short run..,
.. but if a bunch of these players don’t work out, they’re going to take a hit when moving them out because if they sell them lower than their fees, that loss will flow through. Or more likely they get Gazidis disease and lots of players have to leave on a free.

Claudius A number of these clubs betting on the "apocalypse" as it were, some type of "exit" event between now and 2030, like a super league or a massive revenue uptick. In its absence Chelsea will be pretty screwed, but you wouldn't necessarily bet against it.

Ricky1985 I think the Saudi league pulling in a number of "legacy" Premier League midfielders has inflated some of these deals dramatically. We did quite well getting a lot of business done early in this window as the high fee for Rice is starting to look very rational in this context.
