Qwiss eh, re their midfield, it’s by design. They don’t want or need creativity there. That’s how folks like Henderson made a career out there. They have an elite defensive screen in Gravenberch and McAllister/Szoboszlai are decent enough at what they do - close down spaces, recover the ball and pass it forward quickly, then join the attack as late runs from midfield. It’s very effective. They are a very “vertical” team.

flobaba they got away with it because they had Trent who was a unicorn in terms of creativity from full back. A lot of their verticality came from his ability to get the ball forward from deep so accurately, so often. He has incredible vision and they've no one else behind their front 3 that offers that. Don't agree that Gravenberch is elite, he had a good half season last year and could be on his way to being a top DM but he's not in the same bracket as players like Rodri and Zubimendi. Yeah MacAllister and Szoboszlai are decent enough, like I said that doesn't stack up against top players like Rice and Odegaard.

It's crazy that Liverpool can sell a 28-year old Diaz for 70M and Chelsea can sell Joao Felix for 45M but we need to pay Jesus half his wages and can't get rid of Zinchenko and Trossard at any half decent fee. I'd have bitten Bayern's hand off for 70M for Martinelli for instance.

And Diaz is just coming off of a season where he won the title and played a significant role in it, is 2 years younger (than Trossard), had another 2 years on his contract. Zinchenko and Trossard have both won fuck all and while Tross contributed for us a little bit, he is 30, coming to the last year of his contract, only scored 10 goals for us in 50+ apps (granted some of them were subs). Zin is a good player for teams at midtable looking to move up a little, he is not really a major player for a title winning side at this point. Jesus, well, he's just about useless as he's a perma-crock, lost all his pace, has high wages and is generally unreliable.

Pool are favourites but not exactly overwhelming favourites. Everyone knows they've got a soft underbelly.

Meatwad nah, the upside of it all working is too risky and will put a huge dent in our title ambitions.

We can say what we like but the reality is they'd have two of the top five attacking players in the league playing for them, as well as the best CB and GK.

I have no issues at all with them throwing +£150 million on Isak. We got the better striker at one third of the fee and we've built a strong defence and midfield. van Dijk and Robinson are aging and won't last a full season, and Trent is gone. That's quite a bad situation to be in considering the way they dropped off from February and onwards last season.

Adding Isak is not going to solve any of those energy issues. If he doesn't break down next season it'll be the one after that. They won't get comparable value on the pitch relative to what they pay and his contract will be worth like 10% of the club's total value. They could actually get into serious trouble over this when you look at how much squad work they need to get done. Part of why Liverpool had a renaissance to begin with was because they didn't do stupid things like this. Wirtz was already a rather big risk considering his fee and his preferred position. Adding Isak would magnify it.

I would pay attention to how Man United's decline started if I were Liverpool. Buying van Persie did add one final title, but then the wheels fell off an aging team and they started throwing huge money on big names instead of signing players they actually needed.

there is no way virgil is the best cb in the league. he was good last season, but that's because it was in comparison to how far he had fallen off to where he was being memed. leao's goal may have been "oh it's just pre-season" but virgil defends like that during the season.

Meatwad exactly, his super power is positioning and anticipation. And the older you get, the less your acceleration and ability to close down/cover space, as exposed by Leao. He relies on jockeying and waiting for the attacking player to make a mistake, ie very passive defending. Our center backs are in my opinion, in this moment, individually better, and collectively also we have a stronger pairing than they do.

Meatwad last season Gabriel was the best CB in the league and Saliba was 2nd. Everything you said about van Dijk is correct and his main superpower now isn't anticipation or tackling, etc its the leeway he gets from refs. If he'd had a couple of the obvious calls against him that should have came his season looks a lot different last year.

flobaba Liverpool are really lacking depth and they'll be expected to go deep in all competitions. I just don't see them managing that. African nations is on this year too. Liverpool visit the Emirates in the middle of it.
